There is all kinds of infornation out there against testing for gestational diabetes. I was visiting with my niece this afternoon, she is a newly trained doula, a form of midwife. She had written to most of her young mothers telling them to refuse the GD testing because of course it's going to come back positive, because you are asked to fast, given high amouts of glucose to drink and then have blood taken every hour for the entire morning, The stress of being given a shot alone will raise your BG's up. She is telling them that there is no need for this test because it doesn't prove a thing I had gestational diabetes with my second son, now 25, and she says that the information I have is ancient and not up to date, I was so upset about what she was going to tell these young mothers and the information and sources she had that I had to ask her to leave.
What is your whole take on this gestational diabetes information and young mothers refusing to be tested? Are we headed backwards in our care of pregnant women?
