Government Health Care - in the United States

Oh , no …I was trying to multi task ( and answer the phone LD ) …and it took me too long to add, that my fictional names were fictional : John and Joe …so everything disappeared . And John and Phil made comments …as shown …they seemed to have taken my comment in good jist .
Good night all .

If medicine were like plumbing I could go to Home Depot and buy a new one from a guy in an orange apron. I might even be able to put it in myself.

45 replies and the thread is still here! C’mon, let’s try it again: three, two, one…

First of all, it’s not a health care program. As someone else has said, it’s more like insurance regulation.

Even with that, it’s a big gift to the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies. it does nothing to lower the actual costs of health care and it is only a dream that it will lower insurance premiums. I don’t remember the last time I saw a premium go down. That’s because I’ve never seen it happen!

I don’t think the bill is good, but I also don’t think it will do any harm. At least the logjam is broken and we can keep moving to make sure everyone has healthcare.

Now THAT’S funny!

I think “lower premiums” was meant as in relative to what you would pay if there was no reform…and not actually lower premiums from what they are currently. That’s very difficult to do.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i’m hunting a insurance plan, LMAO

I want lower rates when will this all start to show up for the real people?

From the LA Times website, here’s an overview of the reform…http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-na-healthcare-passage22-2010mar22-g,0,7818440.graphic

oh premiums will rise even if this didn’t pass premiums will rise. this bill didn’t do much to address rising costs of health CARE but did address the insurance side

Ok. I’m going to put in my 2 cents, and then I’m getting the hell outta here.
I hear both sides, I agree with both sides, but… I’m hearing so many mixed summaries about what the reform actually IS that I don’t know where I stand on it.
Here’s what I want:
1. Caps on how much an insurance company can charge
2. No ability to turn down insurance coverage for someone based on their health issues
3. Restrictions on pharmaceutical companies- the more the drug is NEEDED, the LESS it should cost.
4. Restrictions on pharmaceutical companies where they cannot CREATE diseases in their labs (thanks Pfizer) just so that they can gain money off of hte public when they take their drugs to cure the disease THEY created.
5. Insurance coverage “strongly suggested” for each individual, but not necessarily “needed” because some people just don’t go to the doctor. Why should we force them to? What if it’s against their beliefs to seek medical advice? (I’ve seen before where people will deny insulin to their daughter because it was their belief that humans are not allowed to decide who lives and who dies-… but that’s another story) It’s like car insurance. You are required to have car insurance if you have a car. For people who don’t want to pay the insurance, they just don’t have a car- they live in a city and ride their bikes. But if health insurance were mandatory, what are the options to not pay?
6. Restrictions on those damn insurance companies. I know that I have seen my premiums go up and up and up over the years and I’ve only been able to look at it as “inflation”. If i’m covered for insurance of up to $100,000 per year… then dammit I should be able to get whatever medical devices that I WANT to! There’s no reason why I should be paying more money for the coverage than I am for the scrips.

I hate that this country is basically based on insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. Without them, how could we possibly drug Americans? It’s a way for us to be in “fear” of the next disease or the next ailment. There is no reason why when i watch 15 minutes of TV, that I’ve already seen 2 drug commericals. That’s why I don’t watch the friggin TV.

ugh.

Ok, I’m done.

wow what dieseases did pfizer cook up? and you don’t have to get insurance but then you have to pay a fine- not huge and not sure exactly what if anything they will do to you if you don’t pay (earlier versions of the bill said if you didn’t payt eh penalty you WOULD not go to jail)

"A former Pfizer scientist is suing the pharmaceuticals giant after alleging she contracted an artificial, HIV-like, virus created by a colleague. In her lawsuit, Becky McClain claims Pfizer unlawfully dismissed her while she suffered bouts of paralysis brought on by the man-made virus. Pfizer denies these accusations, and says McClain simply didn’t come to work, and only linked her problems to engineered-disease exposure after she was fired.

According to McClain, researchers in her lab genetically engineered an artificial lentivirus, a class of viruses that also includes HIV. McClain believes that she became infected by the virus due to faulty safety measures, resulting in complete body paralysis as often as 12 times every month.

For its part, Pfizer claims that its facilities maintain the required level of safety, a position that OSHA agrees with. Pfizer contends that they responded to McClain’s initial complaints about the failure of lab safety devices, and that she refused to return to work even after Pfizer offered to transfer her to a different area. Additionally, Pfizer also claims that McClain’s illness could not have resulted from the escaped virus, since it was not engineered from a human virus, or with the genetic code needed for reproduction and infection.

Most likely, we will never know if it is Pfizer’s virus that caused McClain’s health problems. The court case will focus mostly on safety procedures in the laboratory, not on what exactly from the lab caused the illness. Also, Pfizer refuses to release the genome of the suspected virus, preventing both identification of the disease, as well as the development of a possible cure."

disgusting, huh?

Notice how they casually, never deny, engineering any viruses… lol

Or do you remember this:

I think this happened in the 1990s??
Bayer infects millions overseas with AIDS virus, when they KNEW the aspirin was infected with AIDS, but couldn’t sell them in the USA. FDA asked case to be cleared out quickly and quietly.

The beginning of the video is stupid, but if you skip to around 1:10 minutes, you’ll see the news report

not sure if it’s the same thing but
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/05/22/health/main555154.shtml

AP) Chemical and drug maker Bayer AG said Thursday it acted “responsibly, ethically and humanely” during the 1980s in selling a blood-clotting product that stopped potentially fatal bleeding in hemophiliacs but was linked to the risk of HIV infection.

The company’s statement was in response to a New York Times report that it sold millions of dollars worth of an older version of the medication in Latin America and Asia while marketing a newer, safer product in the United States and Europe.

I’m sure companies do engineer viruses for Research for possible vaccines or the like. I would seriously hope they aren’t trying to drum up business for themselves.
