How do you bolus for french fries?

Try making sweet potato fries, half the fat and soooo good for you.
cut a sweet potato up into strips and put a little bit of extra virgin olive oil on them, stick them on partridge paper so they dont stick, and throw them in the oven for 20 minutes or so. I like to put curry spice on them, sooo good! even better than mc donalds i would say!

how do you dose for that treat?

yumm…we love sweet potato fries. I’ve never tried making them at home, but this sounds easy.

Well, I felt it in the hidden lines! lol

May be you are right! Now my BG is 311 I just eat rice and a cake today at dinner!!! :frowning:

fridays has great sweet potato fries. Yumm Yumm

i usually bolus for 30-35 carbs depending how large the potato is, they’re great with cinnamon too!

I’m with Jason. And it’s not just “struggling” with the spikes - it’s what long-term damage is being done by them. Not wanting to remove foods that spike sugars, IMHO, is floating down the river De-Nial. For kids, I know we want so much to protect them, but to me, that means avoiding spikes (read damage) and not getting them hooked on something like fries only to have them struggle later with giving them up. Kids are amazing and amazingly resilient. Some times the issue is our own feelings projected on to them.

my approach to managing Abbie’s diet (she is only 6 after all so it’s my job) is to have an emphasis on healthy eating for ALL of my kids. It’s about overall health more than diabetes. Other than juice and non-diet soda, we haven’t made any foods off limit for Abbie – but for problematic foods (ie the culprits in sugar spikes) limit them and give her options. It’s actually not much of a change from our pre-diabetes routine. I think the worse thing you can do to a child is tell them they can’t eat or do something “because your diabetic”. The amazing thing is that, more often than not, she’ll make good nutritional decisions on her own. And when she is totally jonesing for fries or a sweet, we just cover as best we can. This discussion has increased my knowledge of how to bolus for fries immensely…now I almost want Abbie to eat some more so I can try my new strategies!

You know what works for me, is that I will always allow myself a single bite. Whether it be cake or french fries or whatever other treat I really want, a single bite is a decent compromise and doesn’t require any insulin.
