Hi, Rob,
I have now been diagnosed with Type 1 and do use insulin but for the first several months they thought I was Type 2 so I had to manage with diet and exercise alone. It is possible, but it does require a change in your diet. It sounds as if you don’t have a first phase insulin response since you spike high after eating. Do your numbers come down after an hour, or two hours, or do they stay high? You might want to try to do a low-carb diet for a couple of weeks and see if you can get your numbers down to under 140 at all times. If januvia isn’t working for you, you might want to talk to your doctor about insulin. even insulin resistant Type 2s can benefit.
Don’t panic Rob. All though your numbers do need to come down, tell your doctor about your concerns, he should listen to you concerns. After a year of numbers out of control I talked to my doctor about putting me on insulin. Now my numbers are much better and I feel much better about them.
Hey Rob,
I had the same problem. I was diagosed with type 2, and Im on januvia, symlin, and lantas. I can eat just about whatever I want, and my sugar will stay around 150. If I eat bad stuff. Now If I eat what i am suppose to do, then my sugar is around 120. Now it has taken 2 months of using this to get here. Everyone is different Im sure, but I feel like I am finally getting a handle on all of this. Good luck!

Some of the stuff you read about the different oral medications is alarming, are you having any side effects with symlin, and lantis? I am on day two of logged tested diet controlling, and so far everthing I put in my mouth spikes my BS any suggestions on what foods react well for you?
RC
the only side effect i have with the symlin, is horrible nauseous. I take it 15 min before a meal, and by the time i get to eat, im so sick, i can’t. I have to force myself to eat something. So now I am eating as soon as I take it. The lantas, is good. I have never had a reaction to that. As for certain foods spiking me, usually fruit. Apples are good. They don’t do too much. Grapes are horrible. Any kinds of salads are good. Meats are all good. Fried foods no no. But to be honest, with the meds, I can really eat anything and have decent results. What else are you taking besides the januvia?
I am just on the Januvia right now, I have been on it for about 3 months and my numbers are getting worse, I was on Actos for a while and that seemed to bring my BS to the low to mid 100’s and I was eating very poorly, I complained about not being able to lose weight so my doctor switched me. (Oddly enough after I stopped taking it I found ALOT of bad publicity in regards to heart problems and complications with people taking Actos).
RC
I have never heard of actos. I have heard bad publicity on the Januvia, but I haven’t had any problems with it. I think everyone reacts to meds differently. I trust my dr to give me the right stuff. If I have a bad enough reaction to it, he will take me off. Btw, I have lost about 15 lbs in the 2mos i have been on this.
Good job, you must be feeling pretty good about things right now. Have you ever tried any natural remedies? I was told that cinamin is supposed to lower BS levels, but I have been taking cinamin capsules for about 8 months and have had no changes…

I am sorry, are you directing this queston to me? Sometimes the site is a little confusing.
