1961 - just before my 18th birthday, spent it in hospital as they worked out insulin doses etc. Reading the replies it’s strange how many people were diagnosed around a birthday. I remember my 36th birthday was a milestone as I had now had diabetes for as many years as I hadn’t had it.
Asthma & Diabetes, I also had a doctor get them confused, I was going into a hyperglycemic (high BG) coma, & gasping for breath, the locum doc who came round said I was having an asthma attack, luckily my boyfriend convinced him I had never had asthma & they called an ambulance
That is sweet, that you feel bad for your parents. I am sure they feel bad for you. I feel bad for my husband and kids that I have diabetes. But I can’t change that I do, so I just try to be as positive about it as possible, and try to do all the things that I should so that no one has to find me passed out or anything. I have found that it gets easier with time, I hope it does for you too.
I was 2. I am now 54. Don’t give up. There is no need to, high blood sugar well fixit, low blood sugar eat something. It is not like you have to take chemo. Think about it.
Hi Christina,
that is discouraging. I am 37 and dx 4 months ago.
probably LADA too. I was hoping LADA was not so genetic (I have two kids 8 and 5 yrs and I have been fanatically testing them.
