"I don't have to carry a cooler with FlexPen"?

Ok, I have seen these commercials for years. It's that line that I do not understand. Why, implied by the commercial, is it "ok" not to refrigerate Novolog in a pen, yet you must carry a cooler to refrigerate insulin if it is in a vial?

I do not tote a cooler for insulin that I am using, simply leaving my stock in the refrigerator. I have used pens, syringes, and pumps.

Maybe they are comparing a novolog pen with some other brand of vial.

Quoting the novolog website: http://www.novolog.com/novolog/howdifferent.aspx they seem to claim that all novolog is good outside the fridge for 28 days:

NovoLog® FlexPen®, 3-mL PenFill® cartridge,* and 10-mL vial do not need to be refrigerated once they've been opened, so they can be stored on a nightstand, in a purse, and many other places.

It's called advertising! But I still would carry the pen in a Frio (much easier than a cooler) if I'm going to be out and about in 90-100 degree temps. (It probably gives a maximum temp somewhere in the fine print too).

It's just a commercial pointed at someone that does not know...they are not singing to the Choir...

Insulin on TV, it's a relatively new approach pointed at Type II. My brother has never participated in a DOC except for Tweeter and he surfs the web everyday, He uses a Novolog® pin as well as a Levemir® pin...I'm sure He learned from his health care provider or he read the insert in the box.

Let's hope after they've seen the commercial they remember they need needles, too. It gets me when he sticks it in his pocket without any. Having been talking about these things awhile, I've learned that for every pen there's a different set of instructions out there that someone has to follow 1, 2, 3. No skipping the instructions or people sure get different doses. It's gotten so that I carry 3 or 4 different papers.
Personally when I'm toting vials, they're in a Frio with a gel ice pack slipped in back. I like researching how long lasting they can be.
