To be honest, I think your situation is serious. I would recommend the diet from Richard Bernstein in his book "Diabetes Solution." There is a lot of information on his website and there is a group here. The core principle is carb restriction. You need a diet that brings your blood sugar under control as quickly as possible. There is a group here that discusses the Bernstein teachings, they can help.
What is your goal? Dr. Bernstein is a bit too extreme for my tastes but I agree with him that having stable BG is much easier with less carbs. My solution is to eat more carbs @ night, when I'm a couch potato and sort of load up on insulin and "chase the dragon". If you are T2 and *not* on insulin, I think that you can still get decent results but perhaps would want to avoid loading up on carbs unless maybe you were going to work out or something?
I tried lowering carbs without reading a book, just by looking at what I was eating? Cereal for breakfast turned into eggs, sandwich chips, apple & yogurt for lunch turned into a sandwich by itself and, more recently, 1/2 sandwich, although I switched from ham to peanut butter and perceived I felt better (psycho-somatic? Ha ha...). At dinner, I eat smaller servings too. Sometimes, people I don't see that often are like "is that all you are eating?" but I sort of roll with it.
My suggestion would be to watch ur carbs. Rice, bread, sweet stuff, gravy and such are carbs,
Agree with the others that lowering carbs is the best, healthiest route to weight loss. Low carb isn't a starvation or crash diet. You don't need a book. Tons of low carb sites available with info & recipes. There are delicious & creative substitutes using nut flours for great desserts, if you've got a sweet tooth.
Give up grains in all forms--bread, crackers, pasta, cookies, cake, cereal, rice, corn, etc. Also, pass on juice, fruit & starchy vegetables like potatoes. Most vegetables are low carb. .
Eating sufficient protein & fat you won't be hungry. It's still about portion control, but you won't be living on celery & boiled chicken:) It's the carbs that make us hungry & craving more carbs.
I did not have time earlier to give you an extended response. Sorry about that. I read your profile and I am worried about you. You say that you have injured your ankles and now are struggling with necrosis. This is alarming for a non-diabetic, but when you have diabetes this very serious stuff. Often it is difficult or even impossible to heal from these sorts of injuries and conditions. High blood sugars hamper healing and feed infection and worst of all our circulation can be seriously impaired. Good blood flow is critical to healing properly.
I recommended an "aggressive" diet to you. You can do this on your own, it is the fastest and most effective way to bring down your blood sugar on your own that I am aware of. But I urge you to try to consult a doctor about your feet. I know it costs money, but you could lose your feet. One of the best treatments for necrosis is a hyperbaric treatment. This treatment is offered widely in the US and is probably available in Spain. In the US, podiatrists who specialize in diabetic clients in wound healing offer this treatment.
I'm sorry to be blunt about this. It may not be what you want to hear. But from what you have told me your situation is dire. If you really want to surmount things and make sure you walk down that aisle with your daughter you need to really get on top of this.
We are here to support you with this no matter where things go.
I designed my own when I was diagnosed in 2002; I was 117Kg at the time.

Everything in Moderation - Except Laughter.
So grateful for all your responses. Aggressive diet will kill me! My blood sugar would change to quickly and I would have to re establish stability while still carrying out quite a busy half/all day schedule at times! frequently with long drives!
My medication has recently been reduced from 25 tablets a day to just 15.
I had also become addicted to prescribed painkillers having taken them for 18 months! I'm off of them now, but it was cold turkey!
Yes I do need to cut down on everything, but I find packet gravy granules are easy to make small amounts off! Dry food requires I dried a lot of fluids (not alcahol) I have a soft gullet and Sleep Apnia! I have a prostate issue that meansif I drink to swollo, then I have to pee all night (maybe 8 times!) Despite the medication for this!
My heart issues has meant we have had to move to lighter meat already! We never use beet fat for gravy ever Ugh! Packet of Gravy Granules Lite are used which was easy because it is hard to find Beef here inland Andalucia anyway. We do not have pasture land within 300 miles! It's all Pork,Chicken,Fish. This morning in a bar for breakfast I eat smocked salmon, on a roll with fresh tomato paste & olive Oil,de caf coffee all for $2 American! It was more than I could eat!
At home my breakfast is Girlie Bread. 4 slices of Brown Silhouette Integral toasted with a lite margarine & one mug of tea. Then I'm cutting logs, building tomato frames, & general DIY.
Lunch is usually 2 sandwiches with the same bread. hard goat cheese in one, thin ham in the other, or yesterdays pork dinner! One sandwich I keep until 7pm ish, when I can feel sick if I do not eat!
If I eat both sandwiches lunch time then I have an apple or Scandinavian crisp bread with a topping. Usually lite French cheese or thin sandwich ham European style!
Tonight dinner is a 3 egg omelet with mushrooms.
Other evening meals are either Oven baked meat or roast with 2 whole smallish potatoes a 3 green veg or 2 green with carrots!
Desserts are sugar free Low fat fruit yoghurt and what fruit is in season!
Zero Cal, Sugar Free Spanish soft drinks. are always available even in bars! I grow my own sweet & water melons, Squash, Marrow, Cucumber, Obergines, Oranges, Lemons, Olive & Almond's, Grapefruit!
I know I need to exercise more now I no longer ride or care for my animals. My active life and painting the entire outside of my farm every year (Andalucian Tradition) help my fitness. Now we are in a cottage I cannot even get my exercise bike inside!
I think Dr B's diet looks a bit like the Atkins diet. I think it would be much fattier than I have now! What do you think? And other comments.
PS. We have no phone line so Internet is not always possible by return. Albert.
Albert, you commented that you could not click on my link. For some reason the web-site modified the url.

PS. Stop worrying about fats. Carbs are the problem, not fats. That applies for heart health as well as diabetes health.
I have to tell you, bread, rolls, ptotatoes, rice, all that stuff. It raises your blood sugar. Fruit, starchy veggies. They all raise your blood sugar. Sugar-free matters very little when you eat simple carbs like those I just listed.
And having to reduce your mediation because your blood sugar is not being driven high from food is a good thing. If you really are on a restrained pension budget, it makes even more sense not to pay for uneeded extra medications.
If you don't believe me, get out your trusty blood sugar meter and test how these different foods affect your blood sugar.
Used copies of the book can be ordered from Alibris.com.
BSC I don't know how many times a week I go through that same speech. It's so hard to overcome popular opinion, even though diabetes is only too happy to teach us otherwise.
i has been my experience (after 25 years of type 1) that carbs not only raise your blood sugar in the day that you eat them, but into the next day as well. For me that's what makes it so hard. You not only have to think about covering what food you eat today but what food you also ate yesterday. Too confusing! I finally learned the carbs are better skipped altogether.
Try to wean yourself off all the bread. You are eating the equivalent of five sandwiches per day. For breakfast try plain or sugar free yogurt with ONE slice of toast. At lunch substitute one of those sandwiches with a bowl of soup. Soups can be satisfying and a healthier option as long as they are not full of potato chunks and mini pasta. I frequently have a homemade meatball minestrone soup that is full of vegetables and little Italian meatballs. I find it works for me. Eventually get rid of the bread altogether.
Be aware of all the hidden carbs you consume in a day. Avoid excessive use of gravy, it's usually made with flour, isn't it? Au juice might be a better option. Crisp breads and crackers are okay, but again, in moderation. If you are eating starchy vegetables, try to eat them in as close to their natural state as possible. In other words, potatoes--baked, corn--right from the cob. They do far less damage in their natural state than if they are "en casserole" or somehow processed.
Best of luck with it. It's hard to go no carb at first, but eventually you get used to it.
Albert, before diagnosis I too thought I had prostate problems. In fact, for me, I was drinking lots of water and getting up every hour and a half or two because my body was attempting to rid itself of my high blood sugars. As soon as I got my blood sugars under control this stopped. Now days I often don't get up at all during the night.
As bsc mentioned your diet is full of foods that commonly cause problems for Type 2s. If I ate your diet I would be back to getting up all night. There is no telling if getting your blood sugars under control would help you, you may indeed have prostate problems, on the other hand you are experiencing a very common symptom of high blood sugars. Perhaps your body is trying to tell you something.
As T2's our body's can no longer properly metabolize carbs. The simplest solution is to stop eating the foods causing the problem. Your best friend is indeed your meter.
Albert, Casper is a magnificent animal, and the countryside equally beautiful!
Your a diamond Alan. So grateful. It's printed off and we are going to use it as a foundation. I'm staying here! The replies for me here are all just answers to my prayers! Thanks m8, my optimism is feed!
Thank for another interesting reply. Unlike you I have a diagnosed prostate problem. Or I Did! They are now kept in check by tablets (Duodart 0'4mg) a day! But I still think you have a valid and solid point! Once I get my life back the prostate issue will need looking at. Anything to reduce the number of toxins in my blood! Thanks M8. Is that a Fender your holding. I played Bass, & mandolin as a Bango for 37 years!
You have put a lot of effort here and I appreciate it. I'm trying to educate my wife along side me. Respectfully, if I tried to leave the house after having One sugar free yoghurt and one crisp bread I would be light headed in no time. Why I do not know, but I have to eat every 4 hours B/Fast/Lunch/Tea/Main Meal !
This year at our Pueblo Fiesta, typically the food was late. I eat a few potato crisps but by hour 5.1/4 after tea time. I was inaudible, slumping in my chair and my wife told the organizer. feed my husband now or phone an ambulance! Mind you I can see a day when I have lost six stone's when a B/fast might look like that, but at the moment my youngest daughter losing weight for her wedding in May eats more than a yoghurt and crisp bread for breakfast!
We don't understand what your saying about raw food or cooked (casserole)! What makes one better over the other please?
It is indeed a Fender Telecaster extensively modified by me. Here's a post detailing my modifications.
I'm so glad you are taking the advice to heart. At TuD you can benefit from many person/years of experience from people dealing with the same situation you have. This greatly accelerates the time to reach a solution to your problem.
I'm curious about Casper's breeding. I was in the cattle business for many years and am always wondering about such things.
Best of luck and keep us informed about your progress or problems you may encounter along the way. In my own case my numbers came down rapidly as soon as I Identified the foods causing me problems and eliminated them.
For fresh food we have to buy what is in the stores. Yes I must lower my Carbs!
However, In provincial towns supermarket franchises are owned locally by provincially minded people. We don't get Nut Flour! In fact as everyone here lives on what is supposed to be the most healthiest diet in the world. The' Mediterranean Diet'! I have never found a health food store on my extensive travels around Spain! there must be one?
We are fortunate that most everyday Spanish food stuff can be bought at our door step. We have 2 different bread men calling daily. Veg man, 2 Fish men daily! But the prices are 4 times the shop prices. I used to marinade 'White Bait Vinegret with Parsley & Chives as a snack, 'Tapas'. A kilo would last a week. But delivered it became 7$ US a kilo! My stomach is always crumbling 2 hours after B/F,Lnch, etc etc!
I started my own veg patch this year. Now making boxes for next years tomato's etc. Definitely going to grow the veg for my self from now on. Got a great deal of pleasure giving away produce this year. Thanks for your input.
