I have been following a low carb diet for the past 3 months.I reduced my insulin from 65 units a day to an average of 30 units a day. However I did not exercise in the past three months. My hba1c stayed the same but I gained 6 kilos!!I am upset about this to be honest…I feel like I havent acvhieved anything from going low carb.In fact the dieticen has advised me to start eating carbs again.I always thought that if you can lower your insulin you will lose weight but I guess this isnt the case with me!Did anyone ever have a similar experience?I am going to take a positive perspective on this…I will eat more carbs(but not too much) and hopefully have more energy and exercise.
I went low carb in June of this year. I average less than 50g per day. I have lost 15 lbs so far and have reduced my insulin needs as well. the only real difference between us is i exercise every day by walking at least 30 to 45 minutes daily. Maybe you need to add exercise if you want to lose weight? My calorie intake has also been reduced as I need less food to feel full. How many calories are you consuming daily? I dont know if calories in vs calories out really applies but it might. If you are eating more food and not exercising, you may have a correlation. Try low carb another three months but try moving around a little. good luck.
Yes taht is true I need to exercise but I had no energy on low carb I was always hungry so Im going to switch to a moderate carb diet and include exercise!
I’m not convinced that more insulin=more weight and vice versa.
After dx I put on 10% of my body weight in 4 weeks despite being too scared to eat anything. I then added another 10% extra. All on a low-carb diet. My endo said not to worry, it was just my body reverting to its natural weight.
In the past 14 weeks I’ve had to double (tripe in the mornings) my insulin due to being pregnant. I thought that double/triple insulin (plus extra carbs as demanded by obstetrician) would result in terrible weight gain. But after 14 weeks I have gained 100 grams.
How many carbs is low carb for you & how much protein are you eating? If you’re eating low carb enough to burn fat, you should be losing weight. If you’re eating too much protein, that will stall weight loss. Dieticians almost always advise to eat more carbs because sadly that’s what they’re taught. You’re not going to lose weight by eating more carbs.
I am getting my carbs from nuts spinach onions carrots mangetout raddish and other vegtables.I was eating these liberally. I don’t take insulin for any of these foods…just my basal.I am eating a lot of protien but I am very hungry.I also wasn’t taking any exercise as I didn’t feel like I had a lot of energy…maybe thats why I gained weight. This is a typical days eating for me Breakfast:an omlette made with 2-3 eggs 1 cup of spinach a slice of cheese onions and peppers.I would also drink coffee with a small amout of milk,I would snack on raw carrots or diet coke. For luch I eat a chicken or tuna salad which had lots of lettuce and spinach red onion tomato peppers grated carrots(it is a big salad). For my afternoon snack I would eat anywhere between 10-20 brazil nuts and a slice or 2 of cheese(I am usually very hungry at this time!) I will have a cup of coffee between this time and my dinner. For dinner I will have lots of vegtables with chicken fish or meat.I will finish with sugar free jelly and a natural yogurt with 6grams of carbs. Before bed I will snack on some more nuts more or cheese.I know I eat a lot but I am always hungry.Any advice greatly appreciated!xx
