My Dr. didn't tell me why I had stiffness in my shoulder, and I dismissed it until my trainer demanded I see a physiotherapist and then a massage therapist about it. Yup, I had, and still have, an impinged rotator cuff. I can now move my arms above my head - ever so gently, but it has been months (close to a year) of therapy, which I understand is much longer than most people take to heal. Humph!
I found out that it does have a diabetes connection, so maybe that explains why it is taking so long. According to the American Diabetes Association, "One theory involves collagen, one of the building blocks of ligaments and tendons. Collagen is a major part of the ligaments that hold the bones together in a joint. Glucose (sugar) molecules attach to collagen. In people with diabetes, the theory goes, this can contribute to abnormal deposits of collagen in the cartilage and tendons of the shoulder. The buildup then causes the affected shoulder to stiffen up." http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/complications/related-conditions/frozen-shoulder.htm
So, after, training, dry needling (like accupuncture), massage, physio-therapy, icing, heating, and pain relievers, my arms no longer resemble those of a T-Rex, but I am not pain free, and I still have a limited range of motion, with that shoulder especially. Any other suggestions of what else I could try would be greatly appreciated. Mostly, I wanted to share about this. Maybe if I had got on it sooner, I wouldn't be spending so much time, energy and money to try to correct it!
Hi, yes I am very familiar with this. I was seeing an orthopedic doctor for a few years for it and it’s called “frozen shoulder” that’s not the medical name but I forget what it’s call. I’m sure you can google it. I had a couple of x ray guided injections which relieved it a little bit but then I started to see my chiropractor for my neck and told him about my shoulder and he said he could help me. He has been adjusting my shoulder and I am so shocked at the improvement! I highly recommend it. I couldn’t get a good nights sleep before cause I couldn’t get comfy now it doesnt bother me but I do still have loss of range of motion but I think that has improved a bit too. I’ve only been seeing the Cairo about this since sept and had almost immediate relief !
Oh man! I hate chiropractors. Please don’t tell me that that might be my best recourse! Well, if all else fails I will try almost anything! Thanks for the response, Renka.
frozen shoulder...........well i tried almost everything with mine.............the right started the part and after a few years it was the left..............would up having surgery on both but lets hope that the chiro can help out good luck!!!
I had a mild case of this a few years back, but it was due to injury (a nasty fall). The therapist helped a great deal but she also said that a small residue of it might be with me forever. And so it is.
So sorry for the shoulder problems but very relieved to hear I'm not alone in this! Have been having pretty intense shoulder pain for a couple of months now on the left side and starting now on the right! Very much interfering with my quality of life. My chiro helps somewhat but I'm very concerned. Isn't the 'betes enough??
Mo, you’d think so, wouldn’t you? My physio said most people are better in 3 months…a year seems excessive from my perspective, lol. I don’t want to complain too loud as it seems people are going in and out of the hospital with what I assume are far more serious issues. I hope my rotator cuff exercises are helping- you put your arm bent and close to your side and then pull on a weight - I think I can do 5 lbs now, but optimal is 7 1/2, then pull out the rubber tubing or pull weight out, leaving your elbow above your hip. Then do it opposite, starting with the open position and pull it in to your solar plex. I am sure there is a youtube out there that describes it better than I just have. I do 3 reps of 15 of each. My trainer says I have lost a lot of strength so it is important to build it up again. Yes, Mo, enough, already!
