Insulin Dilemma...What would you do?

OK so I was joking about the T-shirts but if I was serious...

The beauty of this is HERE we dont even have a Doctor to call. Nurses yes, Doctors no. There is a generic Alberta health help line that is of some use.

That smell is phenol.

Yeah, and ketones smell like peanut butter.

So, if they can put all kinds of tasty flavorings in meds (the list at my pharmacy is long and exotic … coconut, chocolate malt, unfortunately no bourbon flavor), why can’t they put nice fragrance in insulin? I mean, one more synthetic additive couldn’t hurt us.

Yucky. Please toss it.

I hate wasting insulin also, but I’d toss it. At least it wasn’t a new bottle. Don’t think it’s worth chancing using a cracked bottle even with scotch tape.

ketones make my urine smell like asparagus makes my urine smell… icky!

Ahh… Kelly I agree! I would love a nice ROSE additive. LOL.

I wonder if the cresol preservative in the stuff gives it a smell since I dont see a protein smelling but then again my furry friend may disagree.

i WOULD CHUCK THE BOTTLE AND START USING INSULIN PENS!!

Love the comment from Anthony ‘Ironic that we hate the smell of stuff that keeps us alive.’ i would just bin it it to bigger risk to keep using it, do you have to pay for it ?
x

If the smell gets out, the bacterial/viral/whatever gets in.

I hear ya. I tried the pens once and didn’t like em…the syringe kept dripping after I pulled it out. I might try them again its been a while.

I tossed my broken humpty dumpty bottle of Humalog last week. I’ll see you in insulin heaven little guy.

I’m gonna order these soon so I don’t waste another drop.

Now , duct tape that puts some testoserone into fixing a problem!! I would go with the duct tape. My wife’s solution was to seal it with clear nail polish.

Where did you find those? That is my biggest fear, grabbing the Humalog when I am supposed to be shooting Lantus. Color coded and protected…gotta like that!

when in doubt, throw it out!

vial sleeves are available here:

saw them somewhere else too–but this is the one I bookmarked (cheapest when I checked)–I haven’t oredered from them…was still chewing on the purchase in my brain…

I would toss it. The small cost saving of continuing to use it isn’t worth the possibility of bad insulin. If something is getting out it is probably just as easy for something to get in.
