Insulin Dilemma...What would you do?

well if its still good you should use it lol nice idea xD

Dino, I have the solution.
I take both Humalog and Lantus. Have dropped the H several times without it breaking The Lantus, however, is a slightly longer bottle and it will break every time.
I went to Home Depot and bought those rubber protection things that are placed onto the bottom of a stool leg for the purpose of not scraping the floor. They come in different sizes and you can get an exact excellent fit by bringing your bottle with you.
This will make breaking the bottle almost impossible.

Heck yea! I wish I could have done this when my insulin bottle hit the hardwood floor and shattered one morning! It went everywhere - both glass and insulin! And the sad part was I had only used the bottle maybe twice… - three times tops! So 900+ units went everywhere!

I agree with Kristin - store it up in syringes if possible.

And as for the smell, it reminds me of my summers putting up a new pool or inflating some brand new little toy that the material was some kind of vinyl or plastic or something. I never really minded it much.

Depending on your finances ,maybe but… I dispose of it right away. Get a new bottle, I always have an extra one in the fridge. I don’t take chances. Injecting into the body is a serious thing to do! Just my opinion! I always keep all my insulin in the fridge summer or winter.

I adore the shirts, wants one lol

Err don’t you just hate that. I have dropped mine 2 times in one day. They fell out of the medicine cabinet and busted bad. No way to save it. Thank goodness I could get more. The smell made my husband sick. I guess I must be use to the smell.

I’d have super glued it!!!

Kirk

Glad you tossed it - it’s just not worth the risk!

I totally want one of those t-shirts!!! lol

I hate the smell of insulin too…soo gross!

I agree with everybody chuck the bottle, it is not worth any troubles you may have later and the insulin will deteriorate quicker than if the bottle was intact. I suggest getting a nice little case that holds all your supplies and they make them about wallet size. I use one and you can even leave the bottle in the case and draw your insulin from it. here is a link to one of the possibilities http://www.medicool.com/diabetes/diabetes_travel_dicase.php but if you google diabetic cases you will get many different kinds. Oh and I know the smell of the insulin bothers you but just remember that is your life and friend. Keep checking your blood sugars :>)

putting hair ties on it is cheaper, easier and just as effective
