I’m a little worried - for the last few weeks my bg’s have been permanently slightly elevated - despite upping my basals and carb ratio (I used to run at 90-110 - now 130-150 seems to be my new normal, meals can easily now take me to 180-200 even when very little fast carb is involved, no matter what i do).
And now i notice after a couple of recent Christmas parties, where i used to go low and need to eat something before bed or adjust my overnight basal after drinking at a party, I no longer seem to need to factor that in. In fact, i usually end up higher.
I am only drinking wine, as i always did. I am not drinking enormous quantities either - but more than a couple of glasses. Amounts that used to mean i had to be careful, and maybe eat something. Basically, everything is the same as before.
I have googled it, which was a stupid thing to do, as the only thing i can find for elevated bg’s is some kind of liver disease - but surely i’d be aware of that in some other way wouldn’t i?
(I am 41, medium height, medium weight, eat low carb, lots of fresh vegetables, not massively active, and generally happy - just a little paranoid when i don’t know why my bg is doing what it is doing)
Hi @Kokos,
I’m pretty sure for diabetics, alcohol drives our BGs downward, not upward, unless it contains a lot of sugar. The amount you are having is nothing crazy by any means. Sometimes, I get the rebound affect after a couple of hours after drinking. The only way to know if you have liver issues is to get a CBC complete with AST and ALT readings to see if they are elevated. Also, to get a hepatisis test for A, B, and C. Are you taking any asprine, motrine, alieve, something similar or painkillers? Those can do a number on your liver.
I get in to bouts of paranoia too. If you are eating more food this time of year like most people do, your body is trying to compensate so you need more insulin. Don’t take anybody’s word for, ask your endo if your slight paranoia gets the better of you.

Thanks for the feedback.
I have also always found that alcohol lowers my bg - so it was totally strange when it did not.
The elevated bgs went on for two weeks, my endo did a full blood workup, just in case, and my liver values were ok.
I was going a little crazy trying to work out what was going wrong, and then suddenly, two days ago, my numbers went back down. For whatever reason… I’m just glad they’re down.
