I remember to test at 1 hour for breakfast today. I woke up at 87 and at one hour I am 120.
So, that is around 30 points. I eat my toast/PB first (13 carbs) than I take my pill than I drink my drink (4 carbs). I waited to have my coffee until after the hour test but mostly lately the coffee seem to be helping with my numbers at the two hour mark. It will probably go down actually and be more like 110 or under.
So, I don’t know - I think 30 points is good with the Met. I don’t think 30 points is too high of a spike is it?
myself i would’nt try neither , i don’t trust any diabetes pills . but thats myself speaking, i take insulin
good luck with that . do your homework.!!!
I am also a thin type 2, 112 pounds and 5’3". I take the maximum amount of metformin. It has taken 4 years of trial and error but I am finally getting my numbers in range. Metformin helps with the inbetween meal spikes and spikes when you are fasting. It does not work on the carbs you are eating at a meal. I still spike at 1 hour but 2 hour number is usally around 120 or lower. Januvia is one of the more expensive meds unless you buy it in Canada. There seems to be lots of side effects. Check out the website Blood Sugar 101 she has a review of Januvia and all the side effects www.plaunt.com/diabetes
I started taking Met on Saturday and haven’t seen any difference in numbers but I’m assuming it takes time for this (or maybe not?). I just found too many negatives related to Januvia for me to start taking it.
If I don’t see any change in a month I probably wont continue with it as it may be another indicator that I’m possible LADA.
Thanks for the input on Januvia, my Dr wanted to put me on it. But I am trying byetta first. If this doesn’t work I will definately stay away of Januvia. I also take 1500 mg of metformin at night, but doesn’t seem to bring my numbers down. But continue to take because of all the other benefits it has.
I have doing metformin for almost 4 years. I now take the maximum 2550 mg. With a little tweatking of my diet I am now seeing almost normal numbers. I was doing super low carb but now have been able to raise it to about 25 carbs most meals without spiking. I only eat whole real food with a significant amount of fat ( coconut oil) I rarely spike over 125 at 2 hours and fasting are usually in the 80's. I would try Metformin first, it is so much cheaper and safer.
