Levemir overdose. Advice please!

Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words.

Great job! I’m glad you made it through and caught the low and I hope you got a little rest. I was very worried when I read your message because a 30 unit difference is huge and you never know what will happen. 30 units of either would kill me for sure. I looked up online about what to do if you overdose levemir and it said to call the poison control center or go to an er. I find it hard to believe now that I was on 28 units in the icu, but that reduced rapidly over 2 weeks or so when I came home.

I once mixed up my levemir with novolog too, taking it for a meal bolus but my doses were pretty low so it didn’t seem to affect me much at all then. The way I am now I think it would if I were still on long acting. I called my endo and they also said to test and keep an eye on things.

What a great point! We all handle scary, frustrating situations (sometimes more often than not), and we need to be proud of ourselves for that. Just because this is “just another day” for us doesn’t mean that we don’t deserve a pat on the back for dealing with these that could potentially be very scary.

@Kayla9 Good job! You did what you needed to and made it through. Just remember not to beat yourself up. People make mistakes in every aspect of their lives. Just say “Oops” and move on.

I had a similar thing happen to me back in the day with NPH and R. I took my morning dose at night. Where my circumstance was different was I took the fast acting and long acting morning dose. I was young probably 11 or 12 at the time;I told my Mom and she started freaking out. Then it hit me; just eat breakfast; then lunch; then snack at the same time. So I started my morning routine at 5pm which was two hours off because back then I would take my injections around 6:45-7am. So I adjusted the time scale back an hour and a half and set alarms. Nothing like a nice peanut butter sandwhich at 10:30pm; followed by a snack at 1am. Things were so much more ridged in those days.

Glad to see you pulled through…
