Low dose Insulin challenges and low carb diets

yes I use the bd 32 G .23mm x 4mm pen needles. I'm using 2 novopen echos now but I'm keeping a close eye on them because one had a problem with the plunger about 3-4 weeks ago and I wasn't getting my basal insulin on at least one dose. I may end up switching back to novo pen junior for one of the insulins since I didn't have any problem with that pen. But I like knowing for sure what dose I injected if I get confused.

The pharmacy told me that the Novo Junior has been discontinued.

Did you modify the basal insulin to fit the novo echo?

Brian, please clarify backwash. Is it the little droplet that I see sometimes on the injection site despite my following the direction and holding it there for at least 6 seconds?

oh, that's too bad, maybe you can find a doc who has a free sample? or find one online somewhere... I saw open the levemir plastic pen and put the cartridge into the novopen echo

Not sure if this idea would be a consideration for you but have you thought about a pump? To me, they are ideal for very small doses.

Backwash is just my made up term for when you give an injection and even after holding the needle in for a while when you remove it you get a drop of blood mixed with insulin coming back out of the injection site. With a half unit dose that can result in an significant error (but I use much more insulin).

And Rob Roy is correct, I got the NovoPen Junior and NovoPen Echo mixed up. The NovoPen Echo was just introduced last year and claims that you can deliver a 0.5 unit dose as Rob Roy indicates. The NovoPen Junior had a 1 unit minimum. My bad.

thanks for clarifying the term backwash. yup, as you stated, when one is injecting many units of insulin, this backwash/dribble is insignificant, but when the blood/insulin comes back out of the injection site with 1 unit, that is a significant fraction.....I haven't had any backwash issues using syringe to pull out the 1/2 unit.

Yes, definitely. Currently, I am leaning towards the tubeless pod, because it is tubeless. The very helpful CDE, who will be leaving (retiring) at the end of September :( also highlighted 1. t slim and 2. Animas because these two machines incorporate the Dexcom.
