I definitely plan to check into this once they are back in stock.
What is cost for pen?
I have been using these for decades as they are so far superior to anything MDI available anywhere in the world. These pens have been going up in price over the years but last I checked they were 145 Euros + another 35 Euros for shipping using DHL. The pharmacy has a good command of the English language, they are very friendly and reliable. They take PayPal and the pens, when they are in stock, take about 3 weeks for processing of order including courier time in transit to the US. I have helped a few people on this forum get them over the years so if you have any questions or issues, just let me know and I will help the best I can. The pen manual is in English as well as German.
Wow, like most everything else in the world of D supplies, that pricing is like highway robbery imho
I switch back and forth sometimes, typically because I can’t get an RX filled. I’m currently on MI. There are times when MI is totally appropriate and times when it is inadequate. A lot depends on the ‘phase’ my body is in and lifestyle factors.
When I’ve been on a pump, its because either I’m getting Dawn syndrome (high BG in the morning) that can’t be adequately managed via MI, or because the meal dosage needs a lot of tailoring - changing rates of delivery over a few hours.
A lifestyle reason might be when I have a LOT of physical exertion for sport or for work (physical labor jobs where I might be walking 10 miles a day). Regular skiing in the backcountry - where you walk uphill as much as go downhill requires a lot of adjustments in rate of delivery because you get highs from the anaerobic muscle output and adrenaline, but you get lows from the aerobic.
I’m doing MI now.
I don’t think I am overstating, but we each have a different experience. My endo said he sees overdoses on mdi all the time but not on the pump.
The good thing about the pump in this part is it automatically records everything you do. With the app, that sounds great by the way, you still have to record everything yourself which can be problematic. Many find it exhausting to have to do this and it can cause errors. Also on the pump you are only on fast acting so you can’t confuse the two.
Insulin is unfortunately not totally safe whichever you choose.
Thank goodness in my 63 years of MDI I have never overdosed. I have forgotten shots a few times, but I have developed good recording methods and one of my pens tells me how many units I have given.
My doc when I was doing MDI gave me a pen for Lantus and a vial for Novolog so i would not mix them up
