Metformin for insulin users

I have been on Metformin go more than 15 years, Lantus for 9 or 10 and on a Tandem with C-IQ for one year. One of the things Metformin does is to slow the emptying of the stomach. I was wondering how this could affect bolusing.

After beginning MDI and using a pump I would have a rise in BG around 3.5 to 4 hours after lunch, dinner as well but lunch is more pronounced.

I found an article on Tudiabetes by T1Ginger Vieira on her experiences with taking Metformin as a type 1. I Al’s found a paper on Type 2 using insulin with or without Metformin. Neither answers my question but Ms Vieira menythe need to adjust timing.

I thought it this might be of interest to others.

I have used metformin in past, but not year round.

10 years ago I had cancer and chemo. I found some reports of metformin being beneficial. So used metformin for about a year.

But now only using metformin on and off, especially during winter when I tend to gain a few pounds.

I notice when I get heartburn the one thing that helps is Pepsid , but it causes me to have delayed stomach emptying.
I really hate how it feels, maybe I’m different from most people, but I don’t like feeling full all the time especially when I’m exercising. This is why I haven’t tried any of the type2 drugs, to see if it will help out with my type1, but they all see to have that same side effect.I guess it makes sense you lose appetite from that but it’s also really uncomfortable

Going back 20 years ago, my Endo had me, T1, taking metformin along with my insulin. He told me that it would help keep my blood sugar level. It seem to help.

Metformin has never done anything for me except to cause me to crap my pants. Really!
