Moving things around: your feedback

I also like each post dated in the post list.

maybe adding a new area all together, my thoughts were around Technology and how we could see what is all being worked on in a simplified view. For example, I came across the HG1-c CGM being developed by C8 MediSensors and did not realize it had already been talked about multiple times. (I should have done a search first :( ) But if there was a technology page that enabled someone to drill down to what is happening with CGM's there can be a single place to provide update to the research/product as well as links to the reviews and discussions on it?

Thank Manny can’t wait to see what you are up to. I had sent you an e-mail a while back about a survey that you had sent out. I was not able to finish it. I was having some technical difficulties with the site. I hope that you got the email.

I agree with the idea of dating posts in the post list. I don't know if you can do anything about this at your end or if I just need to use my technology tools more---I have low vision. Having the option of making the writing larger would help. I agree that Manny's picture should be up. I don't have lots of tme to explore the site--hopefully that will change soon--so easier navigation in current discussions wouild help. I love the idea of having a type 1 link for current information. I'm a member of TYPE1 Diabetes Lounge, run by Merle Gleeson. Anyone in the Chicago area---we are having a great event tomorrow:
ZUMBA for Diabetes ---all donations(we're asking for twenty dollars) go directly to the Juvenile Diabetes and Research Foundation. The event runs from 1:00 to 3:30 at the Unitarian Church in Evanston. Come and dance or volunteer! Also, the Gala is next week--December 10th. You can volunteer and get to see the Doobie Brothers--especially for all you baby boomerrs! Just thougt I'd throw out those bits of info. Anyways, I love TuDiabetes already so any upgrades I'm sure will be great! Go Manny and Team!!!

Hmmm... I disagree. I think we all have information, support, etc. to offer each other without discriminating by type. There are certainly some things that are type-specific, but where does one stop? I think if there were some division it might be something like 'no medication', 'medication', 'insulin', 'pump'... or maybe not. One of the things I appreciate about TuD is the ongoing effort to prevent/defuse type wars.

I, too, agree. I don't like having fewer posts on the index page - I need to go to forums, scroll through what I've already seen.... I really like Alan's suggestion for 'Show unread posts since last visit and 'Show new replies to your posts'.

It took me ages to notice the left-hand links at first. What caught my eye was the discussions list. Please don't add even more!

Do you have any stats on what is visited most? That could be the key to deciding what to put up front and visible. I know when I come to visit, I'm looking to see what topics are currently active and have to do lot of scrolling to find what is happening at the moment. Maybe a two column approach would work so that you can put the things you want to highlight up the top and the most commonly accessed pages also have a prominent position.

I personally like it that there isn't a lot of class distinction on this site - those pesky wars about Type 1s not having done anything to cause their diabetes while those irresponsible Type 2s have to be held accountable for what they've done to themselves really irk me. We're all diabetics and who really knows what the base cause was? Not me. I like it that we can find specific information and discussions here while we are still part on the one community. Please don't divide us up according to what type of diabetes we have.

Hi jrtpup, thanks for your response re types. I appreciate learning about the different types here on TuD, not only for my only information, but because there is so much overlap among the types. No separating of types please! I hope that in the end we can all continue to learn from each other, appreciate each other, and help each other.

I like the idea of Today's Posts, too. Or even a subsidiary link to This Week's Posts, because sometimes I'm out of town or otherwise busy, and don't check in for a couple of days. And being the blabbermouth I am, there ARE things I'd like to comment on! :-)

About the Types, I also prefer to separate out type 1 from Type 1.5 (or LADA), because a lot of the issues are different. Or perhaps child diagnosis vs. adult diagnosis. Of course, I think everyone should be free to comment on anything, because wisdom can pop up anywhere! :-)

I will probably comment more later, as I see how things work! :-)

I’d like to see the Featured Discussions disappear. They take up so much room and really don’t change that often. So it just means I have to scroll down to start reading new discussions.

Like others, I’d like a way to read new discussions since my last visit. There is no way I’m going to scroll through 10 or more pages of a discussion to see what’s new. I think I probably miss a lot of interesting posts because they are lost inside of some marathon threads.

(I personally wish that people would start new posts more often rather than resurrecting threads that were started several years ago. But that’s not really related to what you’re asking for here.)

Oh, my ...too simple computer, etc minded ...don't count on me giving feedback ...I feel like being a sheep ( instead of a PEACH ...I follow :) )

I think rpwils may be talking about full-text indexing all entries and putting up a keyword index for all therapies (available and/or being researched). This should, in theory, be worked from the side of the thread initiator, but as we've seen, a popular topic may move off the originally-intended keywords into totally different areas.

Segregating off Type 2, while helpful for those with longstanding and obvious Type 2, will not help the folk with LADA that has been diagnosed as Type 2 (either because they're still in honeymoon or because the diagnostician doesn't know about or believe in LADA), nor the folk who are told they have Type 1 because their Type 2 can no longer be controlled by oral medications and their c-peptide test says they are no longer producing insulin.

What might be nice, if we can figure out the indexing, is a "Confused? Try this:" page with a grid or drill-down where the person can check off type, therapy, time since diagnosis (new, less than 1 year, less than 2 years, 2-5 years, more than 5 years), dietary regime (ADA, low-carb, paleo, Mediterranean, low-sodium, other), and provide suggestions for groups, forums, or threads to search. Another "confused?" section might include links to threads on issues such as: current therapy not working, insurance coverage issues, pointers to patient assistance programs, workplace issue threads, and school issue (e.g., 504 plan) threads... (I'm thinking these are probably the biggest issues for the new-and-or-confused to navigate?)

Is there a mobile-specific version of the site (which might load as http://m.tudiabetes.org, http://www.tudiabetes.mobi, or http://www.tudiabetes.org/mobile) which might help Jen, as well as folk with slower connections? Often, these can be loaded on desktops by specifying the correct URL, and links will follow the mobile layout. If not, perhaps this is something we should consider developing moving forward.

Please note that a mobile site is distinct from a mobile app. It is designed for low bandwidth use, and backwards compatible to Web 2.0/WAP (so it can be used on older mobile phones which don't support full HTML browsing and which are navigated by arrow buttons).

The logo tudiabetes.org was in png format before. This added transparency and was good to customize the "My Page" section of the users e.g. to have a nice background image on the page of the user. Now the background image in the header is partially hidden behind the tudiabetes.org logo - which is now a jpg without transparency. You can just visit my page to see what I mean. Can you switch back to the png format of the logo?

While I love the photos on the home page, they could be maybe 1/2 the size, which would provide considerably more real estate.

I still don't like the discussions list being smaller. Perhaps I'm just a creature of habit.. I like logging on and seeing the most recent posts. I've resorted to the 'more' button. There have been many useful suggestions here so I won't reiterate.

Thanks for all the work you guys are doing!

I agree with what everyone else has said about having some sort of indicator that a discussion is new and/or has new replies since the last visit. I know threads have this e-mail feature when people reply, which I haven't tried), but many other sites have a little "new" tag or something next to posts with new content, and have this for TuD would be nice, if it's technically possible.

Most browsers support the use of the keys CTRL and + to increase the font size (press CTRL and keep holding it while you press +). Also CTRL and - is supported to reduce the size. Last but not least CTRL and 0 sill reset the font size to normal. These settings will be applied to all pages of the web.

The keys will just increase your view in the current browser. The advantage is that every user can decide whether he likes to view it bigger or smaller.
