I am 37 weeks pregnant and scheduled for a c-section first thing in the morning. Problem is that they just gave me a second steroid shot to make sure baby’s lungs are mature and I’m going to be running horrible numbers all night long through tomorrow. I suppose I won’t be sleeping much anyway, I think I’m going to double my basals and aim to overshoot and munch on glucose tabs as needed. Goal is for my bg to be below 120 during the surgery so as not to send the kiddo into a hypo after delivery.
The other problem is that my CGM sensor is giving me horribly inaccurate readings. I’m giving it 2 more hours to get it’s sh!t together before I slap on a new one. The CGM has been fantastic for months, why does it choose to get all out of whack now?
Bah. Oh well, I’m going to have a baby tomorrow!!!
Julie, I can’t offer much advice but just wanted to congratulate you! I hope for a nice, smooth delivery for you in the morning & hopefully everyone is running on time!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! HOW EXCITING!! I will be praying for a safe and healthy delivery tomorrow. Are they inducing you at 37 weeks just because of standard diabetic procedure? Do they have to give the steroids when they induce that early?
Kiddo is coming early because we think the placenta may not be providing enough nutrients. By ultrasound, kiddo was in the 45th percentile last month, but 4 weeks later had dropped into the 18th. Blood flow through the cord was good, and baby is very active - but the placenta did show some calcification so we’re playing it safe and bringing baby into the world a little early. Baby’s lungs are usually fully matured by week 37 - but again, playing it safe due to diabetes and getting the steroids, just in case.
Standard diabetic procedure (type 1 or 2) is to induce at 39 weeks - again, because of the chance of placental degradation.
Will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending good thoughts for you and the baby. Hope you got a new sensor up and running well by now. Bad timing for sure for the Dex to get stupid!
Best wishes for a safe delivery. Very happy for you. My second baby was a planned C section. I know what you mean about trying to sleep the night before! Boy that’s hard to do! I hope all goes smooth! You and baby will be in my thoughts and prayers.
