My Vitamin D levels

Personally ,I would avoid most veg. oil such as canola ,corn ,peanut , and other. These are Omega 6 oils . Omega 6 causes inflammation . 100yrs’ ago we consumed on the average a half a pound of Omega 6 oil . Today the average person consumes 60 pounds… Try oils that higher in Omega 3’s such as flax seed oil, Walnut oil, or fish oil.

Most experts in vitamin D reseach are calling for the RDA to be raised from 400IU to 2000IU a day.

I had my Vitamin D levels tested about a month and half ago and they were low. My doctor put me on a prescription strength dose and I can’t tell you how much better I feel now. I was so fatigued before and now my energy levels are way up…I’ve started feeling human again.

Hope the D helps you. I know a couple of people that started on D, aside from myself, and it’s been great for them as well.

Thanks Joe.

Will pop more vitamin D pills. I will see if you can buy cod liver oil not sure if available. You wonder if the vitamin D we form on our skin in summer is promptly washed down the sewer by showering too often. I am amazed on how many people that we given possibly dangerous drugs for osteoporosis have never been tested for vitamin D.

Vitamin D or not ,Take the trip South it’s therapeutic reguardless.
Hey ,take me with you ;I can use some therapy!!!

There is no real money in vitamin D , Sell poison drugs and make big profit and then sell other drugs to counteract the side effects.

I get my cod liver oil at the health food store . Make sure it is certified to be free of heavey metals and pvc.

I’ve heard this from a couple of people but I have’nt seen any scientific data on it. If you could pass along this information that support this… I would love to see it.

About people over 40 not being able to synthesize from sunlight, or Vit A?

Here’s the Vit A info:

From Dr. John Cannell, The Vit D Council. Sources cited at the end.

Vitamin A antagonizes the action of vitamin D. In humans, even the vitamin A in a single serving of liver impairs vitamin D’s rapid intestinal calcium response. Furthermore, the consumption of preformed retinols, even in amounts consumed by many Americans in both multivitamins and cod liver oil appears to be causing low-grade, but widespread, bone toxicity, perhaps through its antagonism of vitamin D. In a recent dietary intake study, Kyungwon et al found high retinol intake completely thwarted vitamin D’s otherwise protective effect on distal colorectal adenoma and they found a clear relationship between vitamin D and vitamin A intakes as the women in the highest quintile of vitamin D intake also ingested almost 10,000 IU of retinols/day. As early as 1933, Hess et al warned about vitamin A consumption, concluding, “as to a requirement of thousands of units of vitamin A daily, the unquestionable answer is that this constitutes therapeutic absurdity, which, happily, will prove to be only a passing fad.”

Dear Joe. I will look into this and try and replace as much of the canola. Is olive oil better? Flax seeds we grid and eat quite a bit. I eat some fish: trout and herring and take some fish oil tablets. Walnuts we used to buy at Costco and eat quite a bit but I have not seen them recently. They are seasonal. Not sure about the walnut oil, might be available at the health food store. Flax oil we used to buy but very expensive and has limited shelf life but I could buy a bottle for salads. If I remember correctly flax oil is quite tasty. Is walnut oil stable enough for frying an omelette or is it as reactive as flax oil? The beauty of canola and olive oil is that they are stable at higher temperature. Inflammation may be a problem since I do feel much better with a few aspirin tablets over a few days but this is unsustainable and would lead to ulcer if used on a regular basis.

My Vitamin D was also low at 13.3. Just started 50,000IU once every two weeks which seems high. Cholesterol also ridiculously too high.

Thanks for the info. This was the part I was missing.

Maria,

My doctor placed me on 50,000 units of Vitamin D for one month then twice a week from here on out. Mine was 18. I actually felt better after I started taking these.

Dr. Cannell and the vitamin D Council has teamed up withZRT Laboratory to provide inexpensive vitamin D testing. One test for $65 or 4 test for
$220 . This is a great price if you don’t have insurance or if you just want to do it onyour own. Just google ZRT-Laboratory/vitamin D

Flax Seed oil needs to be refrigerated and I put a few caps of vit.E to prevent free radicals from forming . Flax seed oil needs to be used cold. I add a tbl. or two to cottage cheese . Flaxseed oil and raw apple cider for salad dressing.
Walnut oil can be heated for cooking .Olive oil still is a good oil for cookiking .I avoid any deep frying myself.

Since , corn has been added to feed ;beef and chickens now have more omega 6 than it use to… I try to get free range beef and chickens for better ratio of omega3’s and omega 6’s.

Dr. Cox ;he’s on Scrubs ,isn’t he?

Dear Joe. What is scrubs?

Does anyone know …is there a connection between high blood pressure and low Vitamin D level ?
I am having my Vit. D level tested next month ; BP was elevated at last GP’s visit ( white coat syndrome or ???) ; take already supplements since I also am diagnosed with osteopororis .

It was once though that Vitamin A and Vitamin D went together . In the early studies they looked at street orphans who were malnutrition. Their vitamin A level was so low that cod liver oil did make their bones strong .this still is true for some third world countries. Some people think that a sandwich and french fries is a meal may still be low in vitamin A .

It was found in the In the early 20th century, when there was an increase of urban living that many poor children ,who were developing rickets responded to rubbing cod liver oil on the skin. It probably worked better this way because most peple still eat a large amount of veggies and had normal amounts of vitamin A.

I have white coat syndrome too . But the connection between high blood pressure and vitamin D is the same as that for osteoporois .Vitamin D regulates calcium in the body . when your Vitamin D levels are low so will the calcium in the blood be low. Calcium regulates vascular diolation.

Dear Joe.

Does this mean if vitamin D is low Calcium may be low and blood pressure high.
