Myths about Diabetes

I’ll do you one better Jenny.

I’ve never had a flu shot, (NEVER), and I’ve never gotten the flu. Hard to believe… maybe. But I rarely get a cold either. The worst is, once a year my body seems to go through a general cleaning that lasts about 2 days. Strange but true.

And even if my wife or dauhter get a cold, I don’t catch it from them. Can anyone explain that?

In my readings I know that the carbs I eat will increase my blood sugar. Does anyone think that a Type 2 diabetic can get their blood glucose under control with a low carb diet and excersize? or am I going to take oral meds forever? Beth

I think it is possible but all type 2 Diabetics are different and their insulin resistance is different. Type 1, no way. We don’t produce insulin anymore but some type 2 Diabetics I believe have the possibility of controlling it purely with diet and exercise

Beth, it is possible but diabetes in everybody varies. What works for one may not work on another. For instance, my endo intends to keep me on Metformin because it has been working excellently (5.3 A1c!) for me. It is not a bad thing to go on oral meds or insulin because these are just agents which help you to get your blood sugar under tight control.

myths…hmmm…Folks with diabetes really want inhalable insulin?

I recently had an article published on dLife.com about myths about diabetes among Latinos. Here it is:

If you followed their advice.

Off topic but how do you define “Latino” (absolutely non-judgemental)? I have a lot of Mexican, South American co-workers who do not agree on a definition. Does it include African, Amerind, Spanish? (really, just curious)?

I love this post !! I’ve never in all my reading found this many ways I can catch diabetes. Wow maybe if my mom just hadn’t fed me so much sugar I may not be a diabetic today and since I am now on insulin (4 shots a day no less !) I must be a type one now… Thank gawd I’ve got a Dr, that is a diabetic too.
My health insur. however feels that a type 1 is worse than a type 2 so a type 1 doesn’t pay for his / her lances, strips and can go on the pump. A 2 gotta pay and the pump… only if you are out of control…
Sheese !!!

ROFLMAO

Now that’s some POWERFUL yoga!!!

agreed i think people forget that just like diabetes varies from person to person so does carbs.
