New Dr. Call

Well after changing out both Insulin Pens and changing the insulin/carb ratios and bedtime dosage, DD’s numbers are still really High. Dr. wants to change bedtime dosage from 20 to 25. And get this, she wants me to give DD’s shots!!! I said okay. I sent DD a txt msg and let her know, but I told her that she could still do her shots and I would just watch. She is very upset, but I did tell her that she is at the age where she forgets #1, and is a teenager and they tend to think that bad things don’t happen to them. So we are in for a rough weekend. I will ask tomorrow about blood work and that sort of stuff to see if there is an underlying infection.
This has to be the most frustrating thing. I am sorry for all of you who have to deal with this roller coaster.

This might just be the end of the honeymoon period.

My insulin needs doubled about 4 months after being diagnosed.

My Lantus increased from 7 to 14 units a day. My insulin to carb ratio went from 1 unit for 30g to 1 unit for 13g. You need to increase step by step… so don’t double her insulin! But I wouldn’t be surprised if you need to increase multiple times.

Take care! I know this is tough for both of you!!

when you have to watch her do her shot, try distracting her by talking to her or do it while watching a tv show, turn the music up be silly!! Maybe do a role reversal for a day and have her be in charge of your health, you know exercise eat right, drink water, maybe even check your sugar. Don’t forget to go outside for some stress relief and some fun in the sun.
Good luck!
