I had a Endo appt today and they said not to worry, the strips are fine, and as long as I am not experiancing any problems then they are to use.
Just tested; 186 with new butterfly on freestyle meter and 191 on PDM.
I’ve been using the ‘new’ butterfly stips for about a month now… was all my drugstore had when I filled my prescription. I haven’t had any problems with them at all. Last check between my PDM and my old One Touch meter, had 94 on the PDM and 99 on the One Touch.
My OmniPod rep told me to use the butterfly strips. He said the only thing I cannot use are the “lite” ones. I have been unable to get my hands on the “standard, old, not butterfly, not lite” strips (way to go Abbott for giving the new and the old strips the same order number). I have not noticed them giving me off readings. I check each “new” vial against my last “standard” one. I agree - I have no idea how FDA approval would correct bad readings?
According to my Omnipod rep, the strips were not “turned down” by the FDA, but the approval process simply takes a long time. They are still in limbo, waiting for the new strips to get approved. Apparently this approval should happen soon.
However, prematuraly, the old strips were discontinued for the Omnipod, so now I can only seem to get my hands on the butterfly ones. In a good light though, they use a very small amount of blood, and do have a cute picture on them.
