New Meter!

For the past year I've been keeping a close eye on my BG with a One Touch Ultra Meter and loving it. I've been told I can go down to checking my BG once a day, but I still like to check atleast twice. My Insurance has recently changed as our company has gone to a High Deductible Plan with the HSA...consumer driven health care policy my a$$. Blue Cross Blue Shield will only cover strips for two types of meters, Bayer and Accu-Chek. I decided to go with the Bayer, and was give a Bayer 2 Breeze??? It sucks, with my One Touch it was easy to keep track of fasting and post meal BGs, this Bayer is annoying, it looks like an old remote control and I'm still tyring to figure out the memory function. The one plus is that my numbers of been so good I thought my One Touch was broken, but have been getting the same results with my Bayer. Last night I had a sandwich with cibatta breat, rolls, and a piece of pie and had two hours later my BG was 89.

I've used the accucheck and the One Touch. Both worked fine, though I feel the One Touch tended to read higher than actual. My insurance only covers the One Touch now, so that's what I use. I used to test 7 or 8 times a day, and now 2 to 3,, since I'm on the Dexcom CGM. Seems to me you should be testing more frequently, but I'd say the fasting numbers when you first wake up are the most important if you have to choose. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I miss my One Touch, but just noticed in my insurance packet that One Touch has been approved as an alternative, I can request after I've tried either Bayer or Accuchek, I like the One Touch a lot better, it was easier to pull up my averages and add notes, although the were limited notes provided by the meter, they helped. How do you like Dexcom CGM?

I also like the One Touch better of the two and that's what I use to calibrate my Dexcom. The Dexcom has been working great for me. I got it after a bad hypo event. It alerts me if I'm low or trending low, which is especially good at night while sleeping, so I can take corrective action. I've also found it very comfortable, though I know a lot of people have had the opposite experience. It's great too when I'm exercising. I think we'll continue to see improvements in all this technology, and there is a lot of exciting research going on now too!
