hi there,
I have just started on insulin 3 days ago and all my numbers have doubled.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Well, sometimes it can take a while to find the right dose. Doctors like to start you off with a conservative dose and then build it up to the right level. If you stopped any medication, that may have caused your blood sugar to rise before the insulin has a chance to start working.
So what kind of insulin did you start off with and did you stop your other medications?
I agree, its not unusal at all for doctors to start you off on a lower dose and work your way up to find a dose that works for you. Much easier doing that than starting off with too high of a dose and have you bottom out. Also as bsc said depending if you were on any other medications prior to starting insulin that could be contributing as well. Good luck, it can be a slow process, but you will get there to a dosage that works.
I'd also like to add, you need to discuss with your doctor about insulin to carb ratios. This is VERY important in controlling your blood sugars.
I started on lantus 5 months ago and my numbers have gone up and so has my a1c test started at 5units then 7 now at 10units a little better but still high starting on Humalog in january
Ditto- and I would suggest, if taking Insulin Therepy, to get the Book > THINK LIKE A PANCREASE..It will not only give you alot of Insight of what your Dr. and Med. team should be doing , but alot of help you can do on your own, to accelerate your Progress towards alot better control and alot better Understanding of what's going on.
I was taking metformon, januvia and diamacron, now i'm taking metformin and novomix, 20 units before breakfast and 10 units before supper. My numers have risen alot.
i guess i thought it was an instant fix. I'll research it more. i really appreciate the input. It helps a lot.
