Like @Terry4, I started pumping using R insulin. It can work, as Terry says, just have to do different timings.
I also use Afrezza, without insurance coverage, so is a bit expensive. It is an inhaled insulin.
But it’s great for bigger meals, since the insulin is in and out of your system very quickly.
Or ask your doctor for samples of vials or pens with Novolog or Humalog, that you could use for larger meals that R can’t keep up with, but still use R in ump for basal and smaller meals.
