I had a high level at 12 for HbA1c. I have put myself on low carbs and walking 2 miles a day. This has brought in my levels down to 5 in about a month.
I write everything down in a book tha to I eat every day, which helps me stay focused.
I. realised I had to be honest about what I ate! It was hard, looking at what I was consuming. I don’t drink alcohol very rarely. I don’t eat biscuits, sweets, chocolate, bananas and only eat one apple a day. I eat meat and vegetables, but no carbs such as Yorkshire pudding or potatoes of any variety nor bread. I am occasionally have wholemeal l rice but use Bare Naked Noodles instead of sphagetti. It’s harsh doing this, but well worth it.
I refused any more medication, so I’m have three months to get my levels down.
Social eating is a challenge but I find choosing something with lower cals or something like chilli non carne. Buffets are tempting as I faced one recently, resist ok g chocolate cake, mince pies and Turkish delight, all my favs. One you have faced up with this, it becomes easier as you go along.
I have been to diet classes, read books, one particularly helps the Carb & Calories book to to be found on the famous shopping site at A.
Lastly, I don’t call it dieting but cutting down. You can also buy sugar free sweets, which are great to have if you want something sweet. I don’t follow any particular diet plan or take any dietary aids.
I have more energy now and am keeping in trim.
