I can’t explain how relieved I am to have found this thread and to all those who have contributed to this…my10 year daughter has been having some night time highs and her basal requirements have increased to 16 units from7 just3weeks ago…I am setting a temp basal rate and give extra correction between 12-3…but it takes its own sweet time to come down…I was wondering whether we are the only ones and was quite stressed…will try and take some of your suggestions in and fingers crossed …things will settle down.
My 2-year-old experiences this too. I think it’s some kind of hormonal thing, because even when he eats a light dinner with just a marginal amount of simple carbs and little fat and protein, he gets this spike from midnight to 3am, or if he eats something that is only fat and protein, like a salmon steak. When you try to correct at the time, it’s very resistant to changing…but if you try to correct around 3am or 4am, the amount of insulin needed is way less than you’d imagine and he often goes low.
I have the same issue…today I have been looking at all the readings over the past few days and seeing whether I can set a different rate basal for 12-3 and 3-6…lets see how this works…its been weeks since I’ve slept through the night…
