No harm getting some just to test out.
I too had read that Apidra worked faster. I thought there was no harm trying it out since Novolog/Novorapid took up to 2 hours before having any effect on my BG.
I asked to try out Apidra and got the same answer from various people on my diabetes team : that in their experience, Apidra isn’t any faster.
I persevered, made a nuisance of myself, and basically just to shut me up they gave me some to try out.
And guess what? For me, it really does work faster. On a good day, I can see a difference within 10 minutes of injecting. So yes, for me, quicker peak and shorter tail with Apidra. Less stacking - with Novolog, I could sometimes have crippling hypos from insulin cycling. However, I think I need slightly more Apidra per unit of carb than with Novolog.
So that’s been my experience. It might be different for you. But there is no harm getting a sample to see. Good luck!
