May have to switch to Humalog because of an insurance change at the end of the year. Anyone know if there are any problems doing that? Any changes to my therapy? Thanks.
I have used all three of the rapid acting insulins and don’t notice a whole ton of difference between Novolog and Humalog. Apidra is a bit faster and has less of a tail associated with it but that does not necessarily change any of my pump settings.
I have used both humalog and novolog and don’t see any difference. I know some people report seeing a difference but I never did.
Thanks for the info. Sure wish it would cost the same as regular and NPH.
My 3 years old daughter changed last month from humalog to novolog.
For her novolog has slower onset and longer and stronger tails.
Her doses are 30% higher now, because beeing slower we can avoid the 2 hour fear of hypo we had with humalog.
For her is better now because she needed a smoother insulin.
I know of people using pump and preferring novolog for its stability with temperature and fewer bubles.
There have been a few anecdotal reports that Humalog is faster to have crystallization problems. In my experience both insulins can have that problem, and it seems to only emerge when the insulin isn’t kept cold enough (‘enough’ being lower than conventional temperatures for pen/syringe injection). But I don’t think there’s any hard evidence.
