Ottawa LADA's?

This is what I figured too. I was wondering why I haven't seen that many spikes in morning insulin very much. I read a lot about DP but I don't have that issue, yet at least, which I'm fine with lol. But it makes sense if my pancras is trying to take care of one insulin need and isn't worrying as much about the other.

You don't want a CGM anymore guitarnut?

CGMS is not funded in Ontario. Very few private insurance cover CGMS either. What is covered in Ontario is the cost of the pump, which you are expected to use for 5 years. And you are given 2,400$ a year towards supplies. This covers about 80 percent of the cost of traditional pump supplies. You will incur considerably more out of pocket cost if you use omnipod. You can submit anything you spend above the 2,400$ to private insurance, which may or may not cover those costs.

type 2's can get pumps funded through private insurance, depending on the plan

Hi Alicia: Anne L. Peters MD discusses Lean Adults With New Diabetes in this video. Dr. Peters says, "Not everybody who has adult-onset type 1 diabetes will have a measureable antibody. Some won't but might appear to me to behave so much like a patient with type 1 diabetes that I will still call it adult-onset type 1 diabetes.

The reason that it is so important to differentiate between the types of diabetes is that although initially these patients may respond to oral agents because they still have some residual insulin secretion, they are going to progress much more quickly to needing insulin (usually either a multiple daily insulin regimen or an insulin pump) and they will begin to look more and more like a patient with type 1 diabetes. I tend to put these patients on basal insulin sooner, often they will need mealtime insulin to be added relatively early in the course of their disease, and I will discuss with them what it means to have adult-onset type 1 diabetes."

I do, but I've given up on it. My endocrinologist loves them...for people on insulin. Also, my insurance won't cover it if my A1c is below 7. (They probably will if we fight for it, though.)

Thanks melitta’s I will definitely check this out when I have the chance to sit down and watch the video. I have more bloodwork to get done I really wish they could just add c peptide on there. But no GP I’ve asked knows what it is.

My own GP thinks my high blood sugars are not a prob til they go over 270 (15) +

Your GP is an idiot. Get another one.

Well-said!

Wow, I don't know "who" on earth could possibly think a bg of 270 is ok???? My gp pronounced me diabetic without a doubt at 279 for a non fasting bg. And I was already in DKA then too. Alicia, I thought you already had an appointment with an endo? Maybe I've missed something here. I hope you get the treatment you need asap to get these high bg under control.

yes, an update would be appreciated AliciaM :)

Not that it’s an excuse but I think doctors are thrown off when the person fits the type 1 profile but does not have ketones. A lot of primary care doctors are educated to believe that type 1 is ketosis prone diabetes, so when ketones are absent it throws them off

yeah may be true, I don't know, (my doc didn't hospitalize me when I had ketones, protein and sugar in urine- very high levels and low blood gases and was in dka already...!) but I was referring to the fact that her bg was 270 and he thought that was ok, that is not an ok bg for anyone.. it either says you have D or something else is going on- I think he told her she was too young to have D or he thought she was diabetic.. I can't remember now because I think she has seen more than one doctor.. I think those were what two different docs told her, but someone said it is ok for bg to be 270.

I got a referral to an endo. But still don't have an appointment. I actually went to the endo's office and they told me they don't call back for up to 6 weeks after the referral is sent to book the initial endo appt unless it's an emergency. They said prob sometime in sept/oct for when I get an appt. I also went and got a new GP since mine is useless and I'm tired of going to a dr who is never concerned with anything that doesn't scream abnormal.

I'm also on inlulin and that is going well. Was going a bit low cuz I still had some IOB from dinner at cheer practice but had some regular gatorade and that brought me back up. Also I didn't bolus enough for lunch today but I corrected two hours later so no biggie.

Hi Alicia,

That is great to hear... you seem to be doing super on the insulin already... I'm impressed!
