Out of insulin in my pump since last night

And exactly why do you think you have no insulin production? Did you have a fasting c-peptide that showed 0 ng/ml? It might not take much insulin to keep you from spiraling up to a high blood sugar as long as you did not eat. After all you did get a Type 1.5 diagnosis and you actually started on insulin pretty early. It would not be unreasonable to think that you would hang onto some endogenous insulin. That would make you a lucky man.

I guess you have to ask yourself what has happened in the past when you suspended your basal.

I am just skimming quickly through the responses and did not notice anyone having expressed my thoughts, so here goes : I believe " every inch of tubing filled with insulin is approx. the equivalent of one unit of insulin " …does this makes sense regarding your observation Manny ? Was the tubing empty too , as you recall ?
I do not recall having been there …a totally empty reservoir … I probably waste more insulin than some .

I think your fedora has magical glucose kicking in power lol

I read something recently( I wish I could remember what) ,but it said even type one diabetics may produce very small amounts of insulin for as long as 20 years. It’s not this way for every one, but possible.

hum, this makes sense Nel… maybe he got some insulin from the pump after all…

As JohnG says, your tolerance for running out of insulin is undoubtedly that you are not a Type 1. So you must have a fair amount of residual insulin production; just not enough (which is why you use a pump). When you refilled and restarted your pump, the insulin would have gotten to full circulation within a couple hours - so if you didn’t see any seriously high BG within those first couple hours, I wouldn’t expect that you would.

the tubing won’t empty (at least not with the MM). once the reservoir is empty, there is no way for the pump to ‘push’ the insulin into you because the mechanical ‘corkscrew’ can’t move any further. the pump is designed so that you only get insulin that is ‘pumped’ in, so when it hits 0 the insulin in the tubing stays where it is:)

Wow Manny glad it didn’t go any higher…I woke up 2 mornings ago with a 400 bg because my canula was clogged with blood and I didn’t get a no delivery alarm.

I had turned off my CGM to warn for high bg’s earlier and I forgot to turn it back on. So, later I checked on my CGM to see when my BG’s started going up. Seems I was high for 6 hrs according to the CGM. I checked for ketones and it was as dark as dark could get.

OK. After lunch I am now running at 196… reporting back later.

10 hours of no insulin and I would be around 600 with massive ketones and a headache! 149 was my gaol after lunch lol!!!

John, I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I know I am type 2 on a pump and if I forgot to reconnect the pump like I did a few weeks ago my bs would have gone higher than the 300 that it did when I finally realized and reconnected.

It is such a case of YDMV (Your Diabetes May Vary). I have been type 1 for 29 years and know for a fact (one of the pump companies made me get tested years back) that I have NO insulin production. However, I only use 30 - 40 units a day (and believe me, I EAT) and I’m not immediately “reactive” to a lack of insulin. When I do disconnect for a long period of time, I may still be pretty level at the time of reconnection but sky rocket several hours later. Sometimes not. There’s so many factors as we all know…

Even though your pump says zero units, I have been told you have about 9 units left, so perhaps enough to keep your bloodsugars steady overnight?

( I suppose I did not hit the Add Reply 1 plus hours ago …it’s not here ??..try again .)

I learned something Tom ; as I mentioned …don’t recall having been there …I 'll continue to waste some precious juice , so I won’t have to go there in the future either .

u said u were “deep into other things”…a lot of physical exercise? maybe that’s what kept you at 149…which I consider pretty darn good considering my bg’s past week:)

I would lie if I said I was doing a lot of physical exercise. I was working… just not working out! :(*

Tim…I’ll admit it. I am jealous!

I am going to go with that theory… MY BGs the entire day have been pretty good (spike after lunch, but came down nicely afterwards):

WHERE DO I GET A FEDORA!!!

haha!..glad u made it thru the day w/decent readings
