Rock and Roll and blood sugar rollar coaster

Ok, yes a little bragging here, but I have to share with someone about how great rock and roll is and how much it can help the blood sugar or not. I was one of the many lucky people who got to attend Desert Trip in Indio, CA. It was the best weekend I can remember. The music of course was the best and I’m still trying to decide which of the 6 performers was my favorite. And here it is The Rolling Stones, The Who, Neil Young,Paul McCarthy, Rober Waters and Bob Dylan. All were great and it was en event of a lifetime.
On the diabetes side, who dancing, jumping, screaming and signing can really help to keep blood sugar on the lower side. I ran most of the weekend in the 80’s. Had in keep my reciever in my pocket as no one would have been able to hear my alarms. Only had one little run that was over 200 but that was over doing at the Sunday brunch buffet. But wow it was fun!
So I now know to run almost perfect blood sugars, I just need to see classic rock groups and dance, scream, jump and sign while they sign for me. Hoping they are going to try and put it together again next year! Eric Clapton maybe?

Did they have a Hypos tent alongside the Bad Trips tent? “Warning - Don’t take the Brown Insulin?”

Maybe not Uncle Eric. I went to his gig at the Hydro in Glasgow a couple of years ago. There were some minor problems with the sound system at the start of the second set and he walked off. Was persuaded to come back after about 10 mins, did one more number and walked off again. Disappointment!

Indio was a backwater hick town when I was growing up there. Just figures that it would wait until I was several decades and a thousand miles away to produce something cool. :no_mouth:

So happy to read that rock and roll is alive and well in the world of diabetics. Until this I felt like I might be the only one who enjoyed a good time “dancing, jumping, screaming and singing” with or without a show. LOL

Also, I was just on the road through Indio…wish I had known about this gig. The windmills had me mesmerized though, and next time I am on that interstate I am going to check out Sore Finger Rd!!

Congrats on running good bg’s and having so much fun. I’ll be looking for you at all the gigs from now on

you always had date shakes and now the Stones - not too shabby bud.

I get the same steadiness when I go camping or fishing. Maybe I need to quit working and be outdoors?

Only if you like dates. Not all of us do. And we also had the sand storms, and the infestations, and the 115° days. Plus some other things I won’t list.

But hey, different strokes. Many folks would hate it here.

Whereas on the other hand–because there’s always another hand–playing the rock and roll gigs tends to have the opposite affect, at least for me. Because: adrenaline! Same goes for any performing. I sing in a church choir on Sundays and even for that–even if I’m not singing any solos—I have to crank the basal way up to keep up with what the adrenaline’s going to do to my BG.

I feel your pain - I’m originally from down the road myself, Banning. I do dream of date shakes, hot ripe peaches off the tree, and the smell of citrus trees in season. But I’m not found of the high desert temps so maybe I’ll just have to hold out for an Octoberfest Rock concert here in New England :relieved:

Ah, yes. Banning was in our football league. We used to beat you (and everybody else) regularly; when I was there, we were perennial league champs. That alone will tell you how many years ago it was.

Bronco class of '72…maybe we did’nt get enough to vitamin D?

I will agree that the desert is not my favorite place, especially when I live on the coast and usually have that wonderful ocean breeze blowing. And while it was hot during the afternoon when you first get there, it cooled off nicely for each concert. And there is not a breeze blowing, it is a wind storm. But thank goodness it never got so bad that you couldn’t see or breath due to the sand blowing. So, all I can say is thank goodness it is not during the summer because I know I wouldn’t have been able to handle that but October was very doable. Loved every moment of the event and can only hope they do it again. But the first is always the best! Long live Rock & Roll!

LOL. Having grown up there, I’m pretty certain no one would be silly enough to schedule a large open air concert in the summertime. And the really nasty sandstorms mostly happen in winter. Or at least they did back then. Lots of windshields get replaced around that time of year.
