Rules for flying

Hello all, is there a quick link here for airline rules for carry on medical supplies? I am MDI(only for one more month). I have a letter from my MD but this is my first time flying since diagnosis. Thanks, Robin

You can look through the “official” rules here (http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/editorial_1374.shtm#3). In general, you don’t require a doctors order. I no longer even declare my supplies, but have all my supplies in a cooling carrying case including my pen and needles.

Nothing official you can carry what you need. I

Thanks for all the info, I knew my big TU community would come thru for me!!

You can carry all your medication, you have to have a cool bag with an ice pack or more depending on the distance of the flight. You can also check out the links below:

Additional Information:
When travelling you have to be ware of time difference and maintaining normal levels is a bit complicated when in a plane and can be annoying…so try ur best and GOOD LUCK!!

Only problem I had was going through the metal detector with my pump. That lead to a full on frisk in a plexi glass room. On the way back, I just put everything in my carry on while going through security. Didnt have a problem then

I get screened everyday by TSA. I have only been asked once about my supplies and that was followed by asking why I had so many needles. I just told them I’m diabetic and keep my supplies on me at all times and then asked if they had a CRO close by. CRO= Complaints Resolution Officer which is basically the guy that handles complaints about treatment of special needs people

How is this possible? They put people’s dogs in there…

Doesn’t get that cold in them. I have worked both passenger and freight they can get real hot nothing to block the suns rays at the altitude planes fly at hence why most airlines won’t except animals in some temperature ranges. The man issue an animals is air circulation in the cargo hold it does not get proper air if there are no live animals in the hold.

I typically pack my syringes (eippens of Novolog and Levemir) in my luggage, but i am making a quick trip and not taking luggage. Will I get grief about epipens and a couple syringe tips in my carryon?

Not at all Mike, just have a doctor's note with you in case you get questioned. I can't recall the last time I even was asked to show it.

As with any medications, you should always pack it in your carry-on. What happens if they lose your luggage? You still need your medications, and it may not be readily available where you're going. Especially if its to another country.

Also keep in mind that where luggage is kept is not climate controlled. If you pack insulin in your check-in luggage it is very likely to freeze because of the extreme temperatures. This can affect the quality and effectiveness of the insulin. Not a good thing at all.

good point…will call doc…thanks
