I am new here but was diagnosed 37 years ago and always try to get the most out of my health insurance. I was on the Medtronic pump for about 5 years when a similar situation happened with sites, and have been on pens ever since with a few months of exubera and afrezza in between. I currently am on lantus and humlog pen cartridges with libre, waterproof blucon NightRider(165) a Samsung S7 using xdrip and a ticwatche as a cgm using sleeves and am surprised my streetsurance from my job is covering the freestyle libre. I also use the Owen Mumford auto pen and humapen savvio that I had to buy from Canada, but I think those pens help a lot with MDI. I also bought 100 cr2032 batteries for about 18 on amazon for the NightRider but I prefer this setup over the Dexcom. I constantly fought with the insurance company on the transmitter which is expensive and difficult to obtain, the sensors which are rarely covered and now have a 10 day expiration etc. The miao miao is another option that is rechargeable, but I had already bought the NightRider before I found out about it. I am happy to answer any questions. I am a fan of the cgm and the libre, but never liked the pump and had it fail often and had to pull teeth to have a backup when the pump site fell out due to heat etc.
56 years type 1 and thin. Same problems with absorption on pump. I am now on Tresiba for basal (just one stick a day) and Afrezza (inhaled insulin) for about 18 months. This has been great for me! A1C has decreased with not many peeks after meals and not very many lows either. Maybe you could get some samples to try! I recommend you check it out. Good luck.

Apn,
I am seeing my CDE tomorrow and will discus these items with her. My endo has never mentioned either of these products. In his defense, he thinks I am doing great . ( A1C looks wonderful but I believe my highs are lows are excessive and often) I think the endos marvel at those of us living 50 plus years with T1.
Thanks again for sharing.
