I totally agree with you. That's what SO frustrating. I know this should NOT be happening. It makes me so mad that I've done everything in my power to get my health under control and now something like this is standing in my way. I know it's "only a few days" (a comment the nurse made to me) but this is MY LIFE. Ugh!
Umm, maybe someone else should address this idea of bolusing with 70/30 while using something else for the basal. If it were me, I'd use Regular for the bolus, just bolus something like a half hour before the meal and try not to eat any food that lead to a spike. 70/30 is already a mix of basal and bolus, doesn't seem quite right to me.
You dont' pump with 70/30 its NPH and Regular insulin mixture. You can pump with Regular insulin though, but you would need to change the duration of active insulin on board, and bolus and wait about 30 minutes before eating.
do you have a relationship with the pharmacist? If so and I hope most of us develop one, Ask the pharmacist if she will agree to give you one bottle of insulin to make it through Tuesday and pay for it. But not run the script through the insurance until you come back on Tuesday. If they know you and you regularly get insulin they might do this for you it is strictly against company policy however. So be kind if they say no.
Here is a second suggestion if the pharmacist is not willing to do that then ask if they would be willing to call the doctors on your behalf and ask if she will prescribe 3 vials if they only give one until Tuesday? Not releasing the other two vials until you return with a note. I had to do this once in another state when I ran out and my docs script did not work. They fronted me a vial until I got a script in that state then took the already issued vial off my total. Like I said only discuss with the head pharmacist and be very nice. You need a friend her and if you dont say please and thank you very much it will not happen. they need to know your in trouble and like most doctors they will try to help out.
Now as for the doctor? I was held hostage once for insulin. I never went back and I got a new doc. Thus proving their point I fear.
Good luck

I don't know why I'm saying 70/30... I'm thinking regular.
I would call the doctor's emergency line, you will probably get the doc on call, leave a message that you are going to run out of insulin and you need a 90 day supply called in immediately so that you only have to pay one copay. When they call back, explain that you can't pay multiple copays. This is crazy that you should have to go through this, maybe find another doctor if this is their decision to make you pay more than you should and to leave you without insulin possibly. You need to have more insulin than you actually need just in case, I just broke a penfill the other day when I dropped my novopen junior, stuff happens. I have stock piled a lot due to changes from novopen prefilled to novopen junior and that is the way I plan to keep it. I ended up with more basal insulin also due to needing a much lower dose now than when I started on it. That rx is up for refill and I think I will ask for a larger dose to be put on for times when I need to prime etc. or if I drop one of those or whatever. I wasn't even aware that the vials were glass until that one broke
Wow, this is a nasty Dr. believe me, if I were you , I will change it right away, she is heartless.\
Any way, please go very easy on carbs this day and God will support you pass it...but as an advice that I do, I always keep a bottle of insulin or two stand by just in case you never know about these Drs.
I can't remember if I posted this before, or have time to check if somebody else did, but Apidra has a no co-pay offer for all of 2013. Check their website.
