Hi Marilyn/Jim, Tks your interest. Yes I have neuropathy - no pain and doesn’t effect my driving although it is a pain trying to convince the auto licensing bureau!!! Pork insulin is available from Rexall in Calgary. It is called Hypurin. It is nph. It is approved by Health Canada although I don’t believe it is covered by any provincial health plans. It used to cost me Cdn$90-100 a vial ie very expensive! It is imported from the UK although I believe the maker is owned by an Indian company - however I have not been able to buy it in India. ( I went there a couple of times for tooth implants and saved a bundle over N. American prices for the same treatments - highly recommended!) I too was on Lente/ ultra-lente - unfortunately it is no longer available as of all the different insulin regimes I have tried over the years this combination gave me the best control.Jim
Thanks for sharing Jim! Where in the world do you find pork insulin these days, and what do they charge per vial?
I gave it up 24 years ago (prior to which I had stopped taking basal Lente / ultra-Lente / NPH and was only doing multiple daily injections of “Toronto”).
Hi, Well done! I too have been diabetic type 1 for over 60 years. I’m well over eighty and touch wood am in good health despite not having figures like you eg. AIC 7.7. I haven’t seen too many Drs. over the years but one, now dead , put me on 20 mgs. dayly of statin 20 yrs. ago… I keep active but h…
On my day without any prescribed med, my BP went up to 143/65 so I am going to go back on 13mgs and once it goes back down to a level I am happy with, I will go back down to 6 1/2 mgs which is a tiny dose. I had hoped to be free of my prescription med, but I guess I need a tiny dose along with the supplement. By the way, the supplement is more expensive than the prescription.
We used to tell people in our store, it took years for it to develop, it doesn’t reverse in a few weeks. It can be a slow process. Don’t ever suddenly stop BP meds as it’s like taking the dam away from a river.
Nope that’s usually the way to do it. It might take longer or maybe you will always need a small dose.
The last statement sorry, wasn’t for you because I saw where you said you were lowering the dose. We just would have people come into our store that would suddenly decide to stop taking their BP meds or wanted to stop immediately , quite a few and I just wanted to make sure people knew that you can’t suddenly stop.
The brain has been signaling a higher rate that is being blocked or changed by other means and it doesn’t change that signaling easy. Sometimes you have to deal with what causes the signaling to happen. A lot of the time that is narrowed arteries, or it could be an inherited propensity or some kind of “felt” need to have raised it.
So I am happy too, my A1C is 6.0 %! It’s been 6.4 for the longest. It could be a fluke but I think it’s the G6 in my case helping. I haven’t changed anything I eat, I don’t low carb, but I am a vegan. I still will be happy if I go back to 6.4%!
It’s been a lot of local pineapple, oranges, bananas, tangerines with some cherries too. So I’m a happy camper!
Just an update. I am having to stop taking the generic Crestor. Even on just 30mgs a week, it caused burning neuropathy in my feet. So much that I couldn’t sleep. Also suddenly I am dealing with restless leg syndrome. I told my physician that I wanted my ferritin levels checked for low iron levels. I have noticed too that I haven’t read a book in 2 months which is extremely odd for me. My attention span seems to be affected by the statin.
I ordered a supplement with red rice yeast in it and hope it will lower my LDL. Unfortunately red rice yeast used the same substance that is in one of the statins that I can’t take, so I might still get side effects.
I was looking at some of my parents old medical reports from a few years before they died at 89. Neither of them was taking anything for cholesterol and both had very good cholesterol levels. I guess being a type 1 is the only reason my levels are high, although I know that my mom’s levels were higher when she was in her 70’s. My LDL is about 118 which I wouldn’t worry about if I didn’t already have two heart stents from 10 yrs ago, when my LDL was quite high.
Honestly, if statins caused a problem, the red yeast rice very easily could too. It is just usually a milder dose. We really didn’t recommend people that had issues with statins trying it. Niacin has been commonly used, but it can raise blood sugar so as a diabetic I wouldn’t take the “extra” doses of that.
Our third product we recommended the most besides plant sterols or red yeast rice was Kyolic (not vegan capsule) cholesterol formula with garlic and lecithin. But you can get lecithin granules to take, they don’t really taste like much so it’s very easy to take a spoonful. It helps with cleaning up the veins. Kyolic is a better garlic as it’s aged, they do have a vegetarian pure garlic capsule and they are also the ones that market moduchol a pure plant sterol. Kyolic for their garlic has some great research to shows it restores the vascular elasticity.
Next these are things I’ve seen the research on to help with cholesterol but I am not as familiar with how strong/good they are at it. There is Sytrinol, with some good research. Life extension has Chol support with artichoke leaf extract with pantethine , they also have an advanced lipid formula. Sytrinol has been picked up by several major companies, which is a good sign, and artichoke has been used for eons for liver health and always has been said it helps with cholesterol. But again, it’s more of an unknown factor because I never had customer feedback on these, I have just read some of the research on it.
Thanks Marie. Interesting about the red yeast product. I will probably try it since I ordered it. I will wait a couple of weeks after discontinuing the statin. First I will try the Kyolic product. Right now I have a pinched nerve in my lower back which is making life miserable.
I have been to my chiropractor twice now and the doctor once. Did this about 2 weeks ago while gardening I guess. Have tried to ride my exercise bike twice, but it makes it worse.
Sometimes it just takes that wrong move. When something happened I would go 2 or 3 days apart for 3 or 4 visits? I wanted it gone, so I was always avid about whatever might work, it’s never fun to be hurting.
