Spinal nueropathy

Does anyone know or has anyone heard of spinal nueropathy? After months of intense back pain I say a spinal doctor today and gave me literature on this version of the scourge of nueropathy. I never heard of it but I know i have been hurting like heck and it sounds like what i might have.

Rick

Hi Rick,
I am sorry to hear about the addition of the back pain for you. I haven’t heard of spinal neuropathy, but have a very bad arthritis in my back. I am seeing a pain doc for it. Have you had x-rays or a CT scan or an MRI yet? Please make sure you get these before you start any kind of treatment. I know they are expensive, but have a friend who is a chiropractor. He wanted me to come in for treatments and said he would do x-rays in his office for me. Another friend who is an ortho told me to get the x-rays first and then go see the chiropractor if appropriate. I am deepley grateful I did. I would have damage done if I had done the other way around. I hope things work well for you. My pain doc seems to be making progress for me with his injections. I wish the best for you Rick.
Blessings be to you.

I had Xrays, two MRI’s and a full battery of PT. Nothing at all seemed to work and the spine doctor after seven months finally said, hey, ever hear of spinal nueropathy? I said no, and he whipped out some literature. I have nueropathy in my feet and a nasty dead spot on my leg. So it is not a new issue. But I will be darned, this path is like a miracle. Sure my back still hurts, but it is 100% better on the first night. I know its not a cure, but i do have some hope finally after all these months.

Tell me about your pain doctor. This really makes me think maybe I should find one, my endo, sort of suggetsed it last week, but did not go into it.

Hi Rick,
If somethig is working for you don’t throw it away. My pain doc has treated me before for a severely curved and twisted spine with huge long spurs of arthritis and now 4 vertebrae completley degenerated and crushed together. The discs are gone and there is no question of any surgical help so about 5 years ago he began by injecting me on 3 separate times down into the fossett joints with big long needles and giving me a little steroid and novocaine mixed together. the areas were extremely inflamed and it hurt terribly for a couple of minutes. Then the pain just goes away with the local anesthetic and you can actually laugh because it feels so good for the pain to disappear even for a little while. Then he scheduled me for surgery to inject the same and hook up the needles while they were still in there to this electrical source and burn the nerves. It destroys them in this area only and lasts for at least 3 or so years. After that the nerves have grown back again and the pain is capable of coming back. During the first 3 injections he is giving me some steroid to help reduce the inflammation. It really does work and then after the nerves in that area have gone for awhile i am literally pain free and able to stay off pain meds and have my life back again. This is what I want from him again. I can deal with the pain from the injections just to know I can have what i want at the end of this. Since I have done this before I know I can count on this doc to help me. That means everything to me. I would suggest you not just choose any pain doc. I would ask about his or her practices and the ultimate goal they are willing to do. Not all of them work alike.
I wish you very good luck with this Rick. I well understand how difficult hard pain can be to live with. Let me know how you are doing.

Sandra:

Thank you so much for the information. I tell you I am nearly destroyed over this pain stuff. It has been going on since March and just will not let up. It is good to know that there is a possibility of some relief somewhere along the way. Right now the patch is helping, though not 100% and only for 12 hours. the patch is 12 hours on and 12 hours off. the 12 off is awful the 12 on is bearable.

I will be looking for a pain specialist, hey of course I need another doctor or two. We all do.

Rick
