Switching to the Pump

Rebecca,
If you’re used to a different method of IOB calculation, it’s very easy to get around the OmniPod method. Simply use the meal bolus calculator for a meal as you did, write down the calculated suggested bolus value, back out and then deliver that bolus as if it was a “correction” bolus. Now the software will include it in the IOB calculation like you’re used.

Anne, I spent 29 years on shots because I too couldn’t see myself being tethered to a pump. I was very quiet about my diabetes and didn’t want anyone to know. I’ve been on the omnipod for over a year now and all I can say is it’s wonderful. I have a friend who is also thinking about going on the pump because of me talking to him and telling him how great it is. I’m also more open about my diabetes and will tell anyone how great and wonderful this last year has been.

My husband and I went on vacation two months after I got on the omnipod and that was the biggest test for us. It was always a challenge trying to give myself a shot while dinner was being handed out and my poor husband sitting there trying to help me holding everything and making sure I didn’t drop anything. The omnipod eliminated that stress and we both fell more in love with it.
