I have been taking symlin for about 2 weeks. I have been on the pump for 5 years. I have been injecting in my upper arms and thighs and have noticed bruising and red marks. There is nothing in the literature about this.
Hey Colorado (that’s where I lived for a long time!) - in the Springs.
Symlin bruises horribly! What I do is inject on the inside of my upper thigh - a few inches below my underwear. I figure if I’m going to bruise, at least that is not noticeable.
Hey - one thing I’ve learned as a diabetic - there’s A LOT of things not included in the literature - LOL
No S–T! I’ve been a type 1 for 27 years, lots of not in the literature.
thanks for your feedback!
so whats with the bruising?? my friend & i have had serious, big purple bruises on our stomach. have others had this & what can we do different?
Hi Cheery -
It’s awful, I know. It is also why I have begun injecting on the inside of my upper thighs, right beneath my underwear.
I use my thighs and my stomach. I feel the stomach works faster, as with insulin injections.
I’m in my first year of type 1… September marks my anniversary… Yay! But I digress, so you can still be effective with Symlin by injecting in the normal insulin sites? I thought you had to inject in the stomach area… I guess I mistook my instruction with my CGM as the same with Symlin… It’s a lot to take in, in one year! LOL… So glad to be reading this one! Thanks!
Colorado, I’m right there with ya on the red marks and bruises… Although, after a couple of months, I’ve noticed it doesn’t hurt to inject as much and the bruising isn’t as bad, although it still happens…
I think you can inject the symlin anywhere, but some places cause burises. You can’t mix the symlin with the insulin but I think you can inject it pretty near if you do insulin injections. I use a pump so I stay a little away from the infusion sets which I try to keep above my waist when I can. When those places wear out I use my stomach for all. My CGMS I put in my thigh, then it is out of the way and works really well for me there.
