The Dawn Phenom Blues

Judith, what have you worked out as a good breakfast?

I am experiencing some of these early morning numbers that are often 87, 90 and then 105 or 108… I find my heart sinks when I see a 3 digit number on the meter. It does make me feel frustrated but I am guessing we are dealing with hormone issues.

Relax, 108 is in the normal non diabetic human range. When your morning BG is 200 then it is time to panic.

I think I may finally have beat it. My doc put me on metformin 850 3 times a day, in place of the 1000 twice a day, and I take one when I wake up for the bathroom between 3 and 5 AM when my liver is getting ready to chug out that extra glucose, and my AM sugars are much better (as are my readings all day). That little bit more metformin taken at that time of the night, really seems to help.

Good idea Ellie! My morning numbers are usually around 120-140. The rest of the day about 95-117 (doesn’t seem to matter if that is pre or post meals) . Since I am now taking 2+1/2 500g metformin tablets. I think I’ll try the 1/2 upon waking, usually around 5:00AM. I have tried the snacks, the no eating and red wine- which I was willing to keep trying for a very long time, but without consistent results. Happy to see another suggestion. One more thing, every 2cd day, I swim 2k . This is a harder workout than the 2-4 miles of walking on alternate days. I definitely have higher bg levels the mornings after swimming. Still, probably a good thing over all.
