Hi, I've had type 1 diabetes for almost 5 years now, and I'm about to start on Citalopram for depression. Just wondering if anybody has any experience with this antidepressant and whether it might have any effect on my blood glucose. Thanks in advance!
D is depressing. No doubt about it. So much stress, lows, highs--it is a wonder we can get out of bed everyday.
As far as the affect of Citalopram on your BG, that is a personal thing. Someone might have done great on it, and it will throw you into BG difficulties. Try it, record everything carefully, with helpful watchers for safety.
Have you ever tried a chronic illness therapist? I found that to be a lot more helpful than the anti-depression drugs. Mine is a T1 on a pump, and she is good about the direction she sends me. Sometimes talk is better than prescriptions. Take a look.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. I don't think that the diabetes is the cause of the depression - I actually had already had some issues before I was diagnosed. My BG doesn't look to be doing anything out of the ordinary, so hopefully it will stay that way. :)
