Type 1 and Intense exercise while on Dr. B

Hi, I’ve done p90x 5 times and I’m a type 1 on insulin pump…I’m fairly new to Dr. B’s way of living, not quite there yet, been eating around 40-70 grams of carbs per day…My husband and I are both p90x graduates!! we love the program. I find my BG unpredictable with heavy exercise… sometimes it plummets and sometimes it goes high…I just have to watch it. (I have a cgm).

Hello,

I have done 3 p90x rounds in the past and had good results. I have not done any p90x with the Bernstein diet but I am an avid cyclist, runner, and all around fitness junkie and low carb has worked great with some planning.

Unfortunately I have not been in a normal exercise routine lately because of a retinopathy battle but thats another story...

I know its been awhile because but I sent you a reference regarding glycogen storage and usage among various types of athletes overuse non athletes. The amount of glycogen stored in muscles is not static for all humans and depends to a great extent on the type of exercise you engage in.

I would agree that most people do not have to worry about depleting glycogen stores during exercise. However, you do not have to be a Marathon runner to blow through your glycogen stores in a single bout. Sprinters can do it easily through intense interval training. Its not so much blowing through reserves in a single session either. If you are not replenishing glycogen reserves adequately between sessions, you run into issues over multiple workouts.

These are challenges for low Carb athletes that Dr B acknowledges.
