Type 1, Type 1.5 or Type 2?

Thank you Nicole for replying to this discussion. I have come across many people, at work, at church, or just friends, who have type 2 diabetes, and I am a proponent of further investigation if someone is a type 2 and doesn’t fit the “Mold” of a type 2. They need to be tested and should be tested to further identify type 2 or LADA. When I was diagnosed as type 2 I had lost 70 lbs before my weight stabilized. I never got sick but I did feel better during that time period almost as if my body knew what it needed to do to lower my sugar requirements. My sugar control got much better and stayed that way for many years until I was to the point where I was only eating 1200 calories/day and was starving myself. Now that I am on Insulin my strength is back, I feel like I am 18 again, and I am so angry that my PCP did not follow through with a series of test that cost < $500. I would have paid this out of my pocket if I knew what I know now.

My mission in life is to get the word out to other type 2’s that are like me. The word is BG, Insulin Levels, CPeptide, and Antibody panel. Let the test determine the condition and not the arrogance of the medical community. In your case Nicole your doctor shouldn’t have had to come to a conclusion. To you doctor, if he would have had run the proper tests, it would have been black or white taking only seconds to conclude Type 1.

Are you pumping or on MDI?
