Type 2 Diabetes in children?

I have heard on the news that type 2 diabetes is even in children. I have a student in my Algebra 1 class who is on oral medication. She said she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I was just wondering if this is more common than I had thought. If so, is that almost 100% genetic since she was so young? I even thought maybe it was a misdiagnosis, but if she was misdiagnosed, oral medications for 4-5 years would have already caused her problems right? It is sad enough to see adults get the disease, but it breaks my heart to see children with it. God bless all you parents who deal with children with diabetes...

* She said she was diagnosed at 10 years old...

One of my boyfriend's relatives has type 2 and she has an 8yr old son who was just recently diagnosed with type 2. I don't know if he's on meds or just diet, but his mom said she was having a hard time with his diet because he's very picky and only really likes white rice and instant ramen.
