Type II people on meds..when did you start taking them?

Did your Husband start at a fourth or half a tablet to begin with?? I’ve been asking around but everyone seems to start at 500mg but I sometimes have blood sugars that are normal like 80-100 and am thinking 500mg would be too much and would like to start at a fourth or half.

Any numbers over 140 cause damage to your body. Many people say they diet and exercise. But the question is really , how much exercise? I am not disputing you , just curious.
Even a prediabetic should be started on Metformin. The sooner you start the better it works and longer.
Here is what I do to keep glucose levels almost normal. My HBA1C is 5.2. Fasting is 96.

There are 4 key steps to controlling glucose levels :

  1. EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.Exercise is Non-Negotiable !!!Thats why it is Number 1 on the list.
  2. Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph… This is a great site for info
  3. Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don’t need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells. Also never ever take Onglyza or Januvia . They can can inhibit the bodys immune system and let cancer spread.
  4. Diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can’t count carbs so I use Mendosa’s Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm

I nordic walk 1 1/2 hours a day , 7 days a week. Yes , it takes Attitude and dedication. But you can do it.

Good luck
take care

lol I am the opposite, I have to eat all of my carbs by lunchtime.

I was diagnosed with an A1c of 7.9 at the end of March 2010 but just 3 weeks before it was 6.2 and prior to that it was 5.6. I suddenly began running in the 300-400 range and I was scheduled for a hysterectomy in 2 weeks so I had to get my numbers down fast for surgery. The doctor feels the diabetes came on due to a hormone pill I was put on the month before. I was immediately put on Lantus insulin and Met. I have stayed on them and am also low carbing. I have lost 80+ lbs. After the surgery I was given the choice to try all oral meds or stay with what I was doing (lantus and met). I chose to stay with the insulin and Met and I have never regretted it. My A1c in August was down to 5.8, my cholesterol had dropped into normal range with a 100 point drop and my trigycerides had dropped 200+ points into normal range also. I now rarely ever see a bgl over 120. I am usually in the 80-100 range.

Hi I imediatly was put on the pills to help control my bs. They did nothing at all for me so about two moths later after diagnosis I was put on insulin. I was still struggling with highs so I got a second 24 hour insulin added and I feel great! My numbers are now totally under control and I have much more energey! My doctor didn’t fool around! If something didn’t work we went to the next step! I’m so glad he did too! I take my morning shot and cover my meals with another insulin. The shots are totally painless and I’ve gotten used to it. I’ve been a diabetic for only four months!know you have choices and shouldn’t be made to suffer! Look not everyone can control with diet and excercise! I couldn’t. That dosennt make you a failure either ! Everyones bodys different and if you need medicine take it! Its a lot better for you than constant hiigh blood sugar! Please keep in mind some people can do it others need meds or insulin! Being put on insulin was a God send for me.not only are my numbers perfect I have way more energey! Id talk to my doc. If he dosent listen please get a new doc that gives you options. Because you do have options and shouldn’t have to constantly struggle!
