Using Glipizide long term in type 1.5

Does anyone know if Metformin (1000mg) and Glipizide (5mg) can be taken together? Last week after I started having nausea, my dr. had me cut the Metformin to half a pill in the morning, and on Monday I picked up the prescription of Glipizide, and after feeling a weak spell yesterday late morning and B/G levels of under 100 last night and this morning, I’m wondering if both are overcorrecting the condition.
I found out that my cholesterol is in the acceptable range, so I’m happy about that.

Hi Gunnar, I don’t know the answer to this. I don’t know anything about metformin. You might try throwing it out there in a new discussion. I know folks around here have very strong opinions about glypizide and other meds. Their feedback helped me push to get off glipizide and onto insulin. I am type 1 though so glipizide was never a great option for me despite what my doctor may have thought. I am feeling much better on insulin now. I found I was really hungry on glipizide. Maybe you could back down to 2.5 mg. or split it morning and night 2.5 mgs. each. Another thought is to make sure you have enough slow acting carbs, protein, and fat in a meal. That helped me to feel more stable and not feel so weak a few hours after eating. Sarah
