It came to my attention that the level of vitamin D is very likely in direct relation to the development of T1. It can be concluded that a supplementation of children with vitamin D is a good idea - especially if one of the parents already has T1 (this is my personal conclusion).
I have heard that before. I’m breastfeeding my new baby and plan to start giving her a Vitamin D drops supplement. My pediatrician recommended it.
Thank you for the reminder! Very important Have a great day.
Yes, interesting indeed.
I got my mom to start my (much) younger sister on these Baby Vitamin D drops
do you think it would make a difference to take extra vitamin D while pregnant?
In Hungary, every breastfed baby is prescribed 20,000 IU per day of vitamin D (which is quite a high dose!!). I was glad to see that. I also take our son out to sunbathe for 5-10 minutes a day.
This is interesting. I do not want to make you insecure but 20000 IU is a lot. I have seen recommedations from 1000 to 2000 but 20000? Even the most convinced researchers on vitamin D are using 6000 IU per day. Which form of vitamin D do you use D2 or D3? There may be a difference in conversion rates.
Does the current IU recommendation for your baby take into account that you are T1 (so they upped the amount to prevent the development of T1 in your baby)?
Sorry, I meant to come back and correct this. I made a mistake, the units are NOT IU, but “NE”. I will look up more details about it and post soon. Our little guy just fell asleep, now I must too!
It is probably not as much as I thought.
OK, I figured it out! It is 20,000 IU in 1 mL (which is 30 drops). We give our son one drop a day – so that means 666 IU/day. This sounds like a much more reasonable dose!! Sorry for the confusion…
It is vitamin D3 and is prescribed to all breastfed babies (or maybe all babies??) in Hungary. I don’t think that it had anything to do with my diabetes. But I am glad to give it to him for that reason too! He also gets some natural sunshine whenever the weather allows it!
