Let me know how that goes. In Canada Animas distribues the Dexcom G4 platinum only at this time. So I might be waiting a long time before getting the new one. Hoping there will be a free/low cost upgrade available when it arrives.
We chose the Omnipod for it’s tubeless, and remote bolus capabilities.
yeah just got off the phone with Dexcom, ofcourse they dont have a release date for the new G6 and it requires FDA approval but she said they usually have some kind of upgrade program. She also mentioned a good point for me in that any pump I’m thinking of getting integrates with the G5 (tslim and omnipod) and I also use my phone for the receiver. So i guess it’s not as big a deal as I made it out to be in my head.
yeah for me it’s down to the Omnipod or Tslim. Once they come out with the new PDM I think that’ll be my choice. I dont want tubes.
I agree.
Sadly, I doubt it. There are deals offered in the US (like a replacement receiver for $199 if yours is out of warranty but breaks, or a free transmitter if you order a ton of sensors at once) that are not offered in Canada.
My sexy Dexie has saved my butt more than once. I dig Sexy Dexi !!!
How do I go about getting a dexcom?? Having a difficult time finding very much info? Do I need a recommendation from my doctor? I think that this could really truly help me and I am hearing all the stories about, so if anyone could tell me how to start the whole thing into motion I would really really appreciate it!!!
Your physician needs to prescribe one. Then you need to get your health insurer to cover the initial and ongoing costs. If you contact Dexcom directly (go to their website for contact info), they will assist you in navigating this process.
I just filled out the online form and they did everything, they were awesome. They checked insurance, called me and told me how much, and sent the form to my Dr. Dexcom rocks.
I’ve said it B-4 but the CGM is a diabetic’s best friend/tool, etc. better than all medications put together.
Allen I’m glad you like it and see the advantages.
I couldn’t agree more! I don’t mind shots at all but not having to do tons of finger sticks all day is awesome. It has already saved me from three serious lows when I didn’t feel low at all. I verify each with a finger stick and they’ve been really close to my meter readings. I haven’t seen the first 24 hour variability like I’ve heard others talk about.
Have you tried a smart watch worn on the wrist? An unnoticed glance tells me the trend and level. And the time. It is much easier than searching for the receiver. It’s even easier than turning on the iPhone. The watch helps me keep a close eye on my diabetes.
Haha “turning in my iPhone”… My iPhone is on 24/7.
Yeah actually I have looked at some. I will probably get an omnipod once the new ones come out so the Cgm can be read in that PDM which I’ll have to carry. You still have to have the phone for the watch to work I understand.
AE13 The Dexcom G4 is just as accurate, and it is more reliable than the G5. Many people like sending the data to their phone without carrying the receiver, but the G4 will work great.
Mark I agree I love my G4 and my smart phone is for calling, appointmnets and address book and maybe once and a while an internet search and/or a email. I use a watch for the time and date
I use my G4 only at home as my Animas Vibe is used during the day for CGM readouts. At night with my deafness only the loud G4 will wake me up based on the alarm parameters I have set the Vibe vibration and sound are seldom felt/heard .
