I understand turning back the calories but one of my big problems right now is I am trying to quit smoking (yeah I know yuck yuck) and I always seem to be HUNGRY. I try to snack on veggies etc but I still seem to crave my soy crackers and anything soothing (which usually means carbs. Add that to I have severe joint problems and going through P.T. for my rotater cuff exercising is kind of hard. What exercises would you recommend?
Oh wow, i didnt know u can gain weight from Lantus. I’ve been with the Lantus for almost 3 months and i take 30 at night and 16 in the morning. And my mom has notice i look chubbier and my arms are…ummm how can i say this they are a little hard. She said that my arms got like that when i got sick as a baby. So im like wow thats good to know and Drexxy i dont know nothing bout the pump right now. Im waiting for my pump to arrive =). So yeah, hopefully u can lose the weight u gained with it =).
I didn’t know that there could be a connection between gaining weight and Lantus. I was on Lantus for a few years and that’s when I started gaining weight. Since being on the pump it’s gotten worse. I trying to find an exercise regimen now that’s safe for my joints and shoulders.
Yeah but cna you use WW if you are Type 1? I tried to get on Jenny Craig and WW a few years ago and they wouldn’t take me.
I’ve lost about 10 lbs since I’ve started the pump 6 or 7 weeks ago. I have to admit, I’ve no idea how. I dont think I’m doing anything differently… I’m not complaining though. Since I got married almost 2 years ago, I’ve managed to gain about 21lbs so I’m delighted its going the other way now.
Well, lantus have give me 13 pounds, I hate it, good I will stop using it since I already got my pump, but why are you taking two shots of lantus? I though you only need it once a day with the help of another insuliN. I have been on lantus with humalog for a few months, it help me lower my a1c a lot but gaining weight is not fun.
Wao, great, this really is an incentive for me!
That’s awesome. My hubby actually has lost about 60 lbs since we’ve been together because he eats the same meals I do so I’m trying to find out what my prob is lol.
I can totally relate. Since I was diagnosed I gained twenty lbs. and then when I started pumping I gained fifteen more, as a teenage girl I am very concerned. the initial twenty was over a two and half year span, but I only started on the pump three weeks ago!
I am trying to lose weight - I just started the paradigm 722 January and have the CGMS on since 4/09 - Can you give me some tips? I usually feel like I must have a little carb with my meals to avoid hypoglycemia - what is your tricks to lost wgt. thanks! Molly
Hey Drexxy, sorry this took me so long to answer. Yes, I’ve been a type 1 for 19 years and have lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers in less than a year. My CDE, my endocrinologist, and my WW meeting leader have all been very supportive of my participation in the program. No membership restrictions for diabetics that I’ve seen. That being said, it’s your right not to disclose that information if you prefer.
Well maybe I should try again. I just never thought of going again after I got turned down. Thanks:)
I too would like to know how to lose weight on the pump - I have been working out and watching carbs but still haven’t seen much results
I’ve been T1 for about the same time…over 25 yrs. I am on the Paradigm 722 as well and have been pumping for about 3 yrs now. I was actually hoping the pump would help me lose weight however I have gained which is disappointing for sure! I heard after I got on the pump that you often gain weight the first couple yrs after starting on pump therapy because of your body adjusting to it and then you start to lose. But everyone is different. I lost some weight when I went to the DR recently but still have a lot more I want to lose myself! I’ve been trying to really cut back on my carbs and get more exercise!! But I do think being on an insulin pump you tend to bolus for things maybe you wouldn’t have eaten previously on just shots…at least I have. I guess that’s from feeling so deprived your entire life of anything really bad for you like sweets!! ;0) It makes it easy to splurge here and there more easily when you can press a button to cover it which can certainly add on the pounds too!
Drexxy, it is not just you, I felt that way also, since I am the only T1 around that I know of. I ended up with Neuropathy all over my body which limited my movements big time. I weighted 110lbs now I weight 180 yeah sucks big time, I take pain medication and am now on a pump and just got a CGM have good control over my sugars but still can't loose the weight. I am always feeling hungry as well like I am never full. but I do limit my food. only thing I can think of is the meds and lack of exercise verses food intake
Ha Ha just noticed this says 2009, I'm bad sorry pals
You can do Jenny Craig...My wife and I did Jenny Craig and they refused to sell me meals at first, but after persistence they supplied me a form letter to get a doctor to sign off on...all was good, eating their food and riding a bicycle. It's easy if everyone in the house is on the diet and they just added fruit, and dairy products so I had plenty of calories. Eating all pre packaged meals was great and after going through the meal plan for a few weeks I had some of my very best BG days...if there is such a thing...:-)
